Collision Estimator Job Roles and Responsibilities

Acollision estimator (also called an auto body estimator) is a professional who assesses vehicle damage after accidents and provides accurate repair cost estimates for customers and insurance companies. They act as a liaison between customers repair shops and insurers ensuring repairs are completed efficiently safely and within budget.

Core Job Roles

  • Damage Assessment: Inspect vehicles to evaluate structural body mechanical electrical and interior damage.

  • Repair Estimation: Use specialized software (e.g. CCC One Audatex Mitchell) and manual calculations to determine labor parts and material costs.

  • Report Preparation: Document inspection findings repair plans and cost breakdowns for insurance claims and internal records.

  • Insurance Coordination: Work with adjusters to submit estimates negotiate approvals and ensure compliance with insurance guidelines.

  • Customer Communication: Explain repair options costs timelines and procedures; address customer concerns and preferences .

  • Repair Planning: Coordinate with technicians and parts departments to schedule repairs and ensure component availability.

  • Quality Assurance: Follow up on repairs to verify work meets safety and quality standards before returning the vehicle.
