COBOL DEVELOPER

Scope of Services : The selected developer(s) will provide application design and development consulting services to NYCERS in support of its ongoing business process improvement program. Consultants will work within a Mainframe environment integrating solutions with distributed systems while resolving complex and conflicting design challenges.

Role Overview : Consultants will design and develop mainframe-based applications analyze and enhance existing business processes and implement automation solutions where applicable. This role requires strong technical acumen sound judgment in production environments and the ability to collaborate across functional teams.

Key Deliverables

• Analyze business requirements and translate them into application designs
• Modify and enhance existing applications to improve business process efficiency
• Execute data cleanups derived from production data analysis
• Monitor assigned system processes and ensure operational stability
• Maintain complete and accurate issue tracking and status reporting
• Escalate and manage production timelines to meet client deadlines
• Identify and resolve production issues affecting code modules

Mandatory Skills & Experience

• Minimum 7years of recent hands-on experience developing COBOL applications for both CICS and batch processing environments
• Superior proficiency with mainframe application development using JCL and COBOL
• Demonstrated experience with VSAM files and DB2 including integration of legacy designs with new functionality
• Strong background developing in a Mainframe environment with a proven ability to resolve complex and conflicting design issues
• Ability to quickly assess and navigate complex mainframe architectures
• Exceptional organizational skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities

Desirable Skills & Experience :

• Experience developing applications in an IBM VSE mainframe environment
• Familiarity with stored procedures and SQL in MS SQL Server 2005 or later
• Working knowledge of the QUIK job utility language
