The Rutherford County Library System (RCLS) is comprised of six branches and a Bookmobile serving the greater Rutherford County community. RCLS is funded by three cities (Eagleville Murfreesboro and Smyrna) and Rutherford County but it is overseen by the RCLS Board of Directors (the Board). SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Bookmobile Coordinator the Bookmobile Assistant represents RCLS in the community and independently drives and operates the bookmobile on assigned routes assists and directs patrons using the bookmobile and moves library materials on and off the bookmobile.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitates the delivery of library materials and information to the various bookmobile stops. Provide advisory services to patrons.
Participates in the daily circulation of library materials to all ages on and off the bookmobile.
Assist with programming and other outreach efforts.
Perform annual inventory maintain shelves and weed the bookmobile collection.
Maintain the vehicle in good working order by performing daily inspections and refueling the vehicle on a regular basis. Keep accurate records of mileage and maintenance requirements.
Clean inside and outside of the vehicle which may include vacuuming dusting cleaning windows and washing the exterior.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent or above. Professional driving experience is preferred.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Possess a valid Tennessee driver license with a clear driving record.
Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; skill in coordinating multiple projects simultaneously; skill in organizing compiling and recording information accurately; skill in utilizing word processing database and/or spreadsheet software packages.
Scheduling flexibility is required but a regular schedule of hours including nights and weekends with occasional exceptions is possible. This position is classified as non-exempt for the purpose of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The job location is at but is not limited to the RCLS bookmobile.
Physical condition necessary for the regular and at times sustained performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces.
Frequent bending stooping and working in confined spaces.
Lifting or carrying moderately heavy (2050 lbs.) items and occasionally very heavy (50 lbs. and over) items.
Minimal dexterity in the use of fingers limbs or body in the operation of office equipment.
Utilizing a keyboard and sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Tasks require sound color depth and visual perception.
