Position Overview: The California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) OPT/ITSB is seeking a Senior Programmer Consultant to serve as an Actuarial Valuation System (AVS) Support this role you will be responsible for maintaining operating and enhancing our custom-developed AVS and its sub-systems to ensure ongoing reliability data integrity and high performance. This is a hybrid role requiring a blend of daily system maintenance strategic software enhancements end-user support and structured knowledge transfer.
Core Responsibilities:
System Maintenance & Stability: Routine monitoring of system performance availability and data integrity. Promptly diagnose and resolve system defects errors and user-reported issues.
Updates & Security: Manage software patches updates and security fixes to maintain system stability and compliance. Coordinate data imports exports and backups to secure actuarial data.
Application Enhancements: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements then design develop and test new modules reports and interfaces. Ensure thorough QA so enhancements meet business needs without impacting existing features.
Deployment & Collaboration: Coordinate smooth deployments with minimal user disruption. Work closely with actuaries business analysts and IT teams to align system capabilities with organizational needs.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize system efficiency and scalability recommending technology upgrades to keep the AVS current with industry standards.
Support & Documentation: Provide technical assistance to end-users address functionality questions and develop user guides FAQs and training materials.
Key Deliverables
Analysis & Design: Determine the impact of defects or enhancements propose design options with level-of-effort (LOE) estimates and delivery dates and document the chosen path.
Implementation & Testing: Develop approved changes using the proper promotion path and QA/testing methodologies. Perform internal unit testing facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and utilize code repositories and Jenkins pipelines.
Knowledge Transfer: Provide ongoing training to state personnel via collaborative documentation code commenting cross-training and job shadowing. Document best practices and lessons learned throughout the contract.
