Description of Work

The Project Architectural Technician supports the development review and coordination of architectural tasks for NCDAC facilities by assisting with life-safety accessibility energy efficiency egress and space-planning evaluations under the guidance of the Architectural Supervisor and senior Project Architects. The role operates within a structured design and construction environment contributing to plan development investigations and project documentation while gaining exposure to building systems planning estimating and other technical processes that support Force Account construction renovation and maintenance projects.

Key Duties Include:

Supporting the development of drawings specifications estimates and related project documents.
Conducting field investigations and gathering data to support evaluations of building envelopes roofs and other systems.
Coordinating with supervisors and senior architects to review design approaches and technical requirements.
Contributing to planning scoping and budgeting activities for construction renovation and maintenance projects.
Maintaining project records documentation and reference materials to support ongoing work.
Participating in routine project management tasks to help track schedules progress and deliverables.
Engaging in training opportunities that build experience toward architectural licensure in North Carolina.

This position requires the daily commute to DECMs Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The position requires occasional visits to our state facilities for assessments and construction administration. The work schedule is Monday Friday and may require some weekend work to meet the demands of the organization. Flexible work schedules can be discussed at the time of employment offer.

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of architecture building system planning design materials AND/OR construction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NC Building Codes and/or International Building Codes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD AND/OR Revit design software.
  • Bachelors degree in architecture from an appropriately accredited institution.

The Division of Engineering Construction and Maintenance (DECM) coordinates all North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) construction and renovation efforts working closely with the State Construction Office to bring projects to life. Werepresentthe department on key property and building matters while keeping facilities running smoothly through expert support for mechanical electrical kitchen and other essential systems. Associates degree in architectural technology from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in planning and design cost estimating and inspection of larger scale including larger construction projects or renovation projects with emphasis on building construction
