Job Description:
Execute day-to-day operational needs of a model/machine shop for fabrication of machined parts tools and fixtures using hand operated and/or CNC milling machine lathe and other typical machine shop equipment. Support Engineering department in the development of new products tools and fixtures.
Essential Functions:
- Perform conventional and CNC machining milling lathe turning cutting grinding and related tasks to fabricate mechanical parts per engineering designs.
- Modify many different modifications of COTS components/connectors/materials using machine shop tools/dies etc. to .001 precision
- Provide technical input and engage in technical interchange with mechanical engineers on the mechanical design prototyping development and assembly of products.
- Work from Blueprints sketches or Computer Aided Design (CAD) files.
- Craft precision tools that are used to cut shape and form metal and other materials.
- Demonstrates superior quality accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.
- Read understand follow and enforce safety procedures while maintaining a commitment to a high standard of safety; comply with all safety laws as well as company safety policies and procedures.
- Interfacing with and work effectively with multiple cross functional groups including but not limited to design engineering manufacturing engineering quality procurement and manufacturing personnel.
- Provides basic support functions on behalf of facilities department on an as needed basis
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/associates degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 5 years experience in setup and operation of CNC and hand milling machines lathes and other shop tools.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Inspection of parts using various measuring equipment including Micrometers Calipers and using a CMM Coordinate Measuring Machine.
- Ability to read fully understand and interpret mechanical fabrication and assembly drawings designed to ASME 14.5M-1994 standard for complex tight tolerance mechanical parts and assemblies
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensions and tolerances.
- Self-starter high energy results-oriented and ability to multi-task.
- Excellent cross-functional teamwork coordination and communication skills both verbal and written.
