Unit Function

The Force Generation (FGen) Business Unit provides the Royal Navys Scheduling Authority In-Service Capability Management an Intelligent Customer function and discharges legislative Duty Holding Responsibilities/Risk to Life management. The Force Generation Directorate contributes to achieving the Defence Tasks set out annually in the Defence Plan and delivers key activities and outputs outlined in the Royal Navy Command Plan.

Deputy Director Plans & Integration (DDP&I) is responsible for scheduling surface ship Force Generation and programming operational activity to meet Defence-agreed readiness profiles and activity priorities. The FPlans team is one of four OF5-led teams in the DDP&I 1* areas (the other 3 are: LitS N5 and Carrier Strike Coherence).

Team Function

The Force Plans team under the direction of the Product Owner (Head Force Plans) works collaboratively across Navy Command Headquarters (NCHQ) with Head Office Delivery Agents other Military Commands (MC) Strategic Command (StratCom) and NATO staff to:

Develop the Long-Term Schedule (LTS) out to 10 years ensuring coherence with Defence Strategy the Defence Plan the RN Command Plan Out of Service Dates (OSDs) for retiring capabilities and In-Service Dates (ISDs) for replacements.

Integrate new capabilities and platforms into the force by aligning acquisition timelines with the LTS and liaising across the Dev/Acq/FGen/Ops seams.

Coordinate and draft the Royal Navys NATO Force Model offer.

Cohere readiness reporting for the Royal Navy.

Draft the Royal Navy Five Year Plan.

Cohere Task Group force generation across the multiple Force Generation Authorities that contribute to a Maritime Task Group such as the Carrier Strike Group (CSG) or Littoral Response Group (LRG).

Key Responsibilities

Support the Force Plans product owner in development and delivery of Sprint and Product backlogs.

Military lead for Readiness & Reporting within the FGen directorate working with whole force colleagues.

Initiation coordination and completion of Navy Commands CRAF/R2D2 return to Head Office.

Support Dir FGens CRAF Multi-Lateral meetings with Head Office

Desk officer for Fleet Readiness & Reporting / FOCAS / PRISM and Line Manager for the FOCAS CPO.

Support Navy Command Inputs in the Defence Plan and the development of the RN Command Plan and Force Elements at Readiness Annex.

Assistant Desk Officer for MTE allocation within Force Plans.

Act as floorplate security lead and team co-ord.


Local Considerations

Flexible working acceptable however regular access to classified IT systems will be required which will entail in office presence (not necessarily in Portsmouth) for some or all of each week. Around peak CRAF reporting times secret access will be required every day.
