RPG Software Engineer (Card Management Systems & Microservices)

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Software Engineer RPG with solid experience in Card Management Systems and Microservices architecture. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maintaining and modernizing legacy RPG-based systems while contributing to the development of scalable microservices that support card operations and payment systems. This hybrid role bridges traditional core systems with modern technologies ensuring operational continuity and future-ready architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design develop test and maintain applications using IBM i (AS/400) RPG in a card-centric environment.
• Work on integration and enhancement of Card Management Systems (CMS) including transaction processing card issuance and lifecycle management.
• Develop and support microservices-based APIs and services for card operations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product QA DevOps and Infrastructure for feature delivery and incident resolution.
• Analyze system performance troubleshoot issues and ensure platform stability and security.
• Participate in modernization initiatives including migration of selected functions from RPG to Java or microservices.
• Create and maintain technical documentation design specifications and user manuals.
• Follow secure coding practices and ensure compliance with relevant standards such as PCI-DSS.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or related field.
• 4 years of professional experience in software development including hands-on expertise in RPG IV / ILE RPG on IBM i (AS/400) platform.
• Experience with Card Management Systems (e.g. VisionPLUS CMS by FSS Base24 or other proprietary platforms).
• Proficiency in developing and integrating microservices (Java/Spring Boot preferred).
• Good understanding of ISO 8583 message formats and card transaction workflows.
• Experience working with relational databases (DB2 SQL Server PostgreSQL etc.).
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs JSON XML and system integration protocols.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a high-availability environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in the banking fintech or payments industry.
• Exposure to DevOps practices CI/CD tools and containerized environments (Docker Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with message queues (Kafka RabbitMQ) version control (Git) and ticketing tools (JIRA ServiceNow).
• Knowledge of secure coding practices and compliance standards (e.g. PCI-DSS GDPR).
• Ability to mentor junior developers and participate in code reviews.
