Job Summary

Position : Senior Mechanical Engineer / Thruster Lead

Industry : Oil & Gas

Location : Singapore (frequent shipyard attendance)

Contract Duration : 6 months

Scope of Works:

  • Lead and oversee the complete T1T8 thruster overhaul activities throughout the drydock project.
  • Take overall technical responsibility for the thruster work package ensuring activities are executed safely efficiently and in accordance with project specifications and approved procedures.
  • Coordinate closely with Kongsberg and other OEM representatives on technical requirements overhaul procedures inspections troubleshooting and technical recommendations.
  • Manage and coordinate shipyard workshop activities including dismantling inspection repair refurbishment reassembly testing and commissioning of thruster systems.
  • Review and verify technical documentation drawings inspection reports repair procedures and OEM recommendations related to the thruster scope.
  • Coordinate spare parts readiness including identification of required parts availability procurement status delivery inspection and readiness for installation.
  • Monitor thruster overhaul progress against the project schedule and coordinate with the Project Planner to ensure activities remain aligned with key drydock milestones.
  • Attend and coordinate Class inspections and approvals related to thruster overhaul activities.
  • Lead the identification assessment and resolution of technical defects and equipment issues encountered during inspection overhaul installation and testing.
  • Coordinate with mechanical electrical instrumentation shipyard OEM contractor and other project teams to resolve technical issues and maintain work progress.
  • Review and approve technical solutions and repair recommendations where required ensuring compliance with OEM requirements and applicable standards.
  • Monitor the quality and workmanship of overhaul activities and ensure completed work meets the required technical and inspection standards.
  • Support testing commissioning and functional verification of thruster systems following overhaul and reinstallation.
  • Monitor and manage the thruster work package budget including repair costs spare parts workshop activities OEM support and other associated expenditures.
  • Identify potential technical schedule and cost risks and recommend appropriate mitigation or recovery actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections defects repairs spare parts technical decisions and completion status for the thruster work package.
  • Provide regular technical and progress updates to the Project Management Team and support project reporting and close-out activities.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 810 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience preferably within offshore marine shipyard oil & gas or heavy industrial projects.
  • Proven experience in thruster overhaul repair maintenance or commissioning campaigns.
  • Hands-on experience with offshore vessel propulsion systems and marine rotating equipment is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Kongsberg thruster products/systems is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of thruster mechanical systems overhaul procedures inspection requirements troubleshooting and commissioning.
  • Proven experience coordinating OEMs shipyards workshops contractors and Class representatives.
  • Experience managing large mechanical work packages within a drydock or vessel upgrade project.
  • Strong technical review and defect-resolution capabilities with the ability to assess technical issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Experience in managing spare parts readiness procurement coordination and technical material requirements.
  • Good understanding of Class requirements inspection processes and marine/offshore standards.
  • Experience in monitoring and managing work package budgets costs and resources.
  • Strong project coordination communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced shipyard environment and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and attend the shipyard frequently in Singapore as required.
