Reporting Line:

The Strategy Consultant will be assigned part time to the ÒIncreasing the resilience of both displaced persons (DPs) and host communities to climate change-related water challenges in Jordan and LebanonÓ project focusing on Jordan and will report to the national project coordinator.

Duties and responsibilities:

With delegated authority, the Communications Consultant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Drafting of press releases and stories in English/Arabic and share with ESCWA to disseminate and share on their social media platforms and ensuring posting on the UN-Habitat social media platforms as well.
  • Ensure visual branding of the project for use in documentation and media, including proposing logo or visual identity for the project for approval by the project partners.
  • Drafting the content and design of a project pamphlet for printing by UN-Habitat and its digital distribution.
  • Uploading of products onto the UN-Habitat website and media channels.
  • Feeding in and inputting information on the AF project website, with project baseline and results, including human interest stories related to fields visits, including photography during site visits.
  • Communicating with project partners and stakeholders to identify and solicit human-interest stories.
  • Collaborate with the project partners to produce outputs and infographics in English with Arabic summaries for dissemination, including in digital formats.
  • Collaborating with UN ESCWA in the development of a project video on best practices/lessons learned, including video clips to help document pre- and post-interventions and field engagements in Jordan.
  • Preparing human-interest stories through various media (video clips, photos, narratives), including taking photos/video clips related to field visits undertaken during the project, including travel to project sites to collect needed documentation and images from the field in coordination with project partners.
  • Disseminating project impacts on social media in English and Arabic for posting and dissemination in coordination with UN-Habitat counterparts and other project partners. Support administrative arrangements and dissemination of project-related engagements in meetings.
  • Contribute to the knowledge management processes (knowledge acquisition, storage, distribution and use);
  • Produce and disseminate information including campaign materials on the project in conjunction with the Information Office.
  • Coordinate and provide information and materials for partners to organize the World Habitat Day event on yearly basis.
  • Ensure project visibility and implement awareness of the project with support of the project and the communication teams in the region.

Skills & Requirements

Advance degree in communication, journalism, web development or any other related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience will be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

  • Up to two years of progressively responsible experience in communication fields, public information, journalism, web development, graphic design, videography and/or related area is required.
  • General awareness regarding water and climate change challenges facing the local communities in the Arab Region is desirable.
  • Knowledge of communicating environmental issues is desirable.
  • Experience in using Drupal, WordPress, Webflow, or any other content management system is desirable.
  • Experience in overseeing video production is desirable.
  • Experience in producing material for interactive knowledge management products (webpages, augmented and virtual reality products) is desirable.
  • Conduct regular in-person meetings with the project team to discuss project-related affairs and acquire project updates from all team members. Additionally, attend site visits and workshops in coordination with the project team as necessary for effective communication purposes.
