Oil and Gas Roles and Responsibilities
Electrical System Design:
Designing electrical systems including power distribution lighting control systems etc. for oil and gas facilities such as refineries pipelines offshore platforms and petrochemical plants.
Technical Analysis and Simulation:
Performing electrical calculations simulations and modelling using specialized software tools to analyse system performance voltage drop shortcircuit analysis protection coordination and arc flash hazard analysis.
Compliance and Standards:
Ensuring that all electrical designs comply with relevant industry standards codes regulations and best practices such as API NEC IEC NFPA and OSHA. Utilizing software tools to validate designs against regulatory requirements.
Equipment Selection and Procurement:
Selecting electrical equipment and components such as transformers switchgear motors generators control panels cables and connectors using softwarebased sizing and selection tools provided by manufacturers or vendors.
Technical Documentation:
Generating comprehensive technical documentation including bills of materials (BOM) wiring diagrams datasheets specifications and equipment schedules using CAD software. Ensuring accuracy and consistency of documentation throughout the design process.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams including mechanical civil process and instrumentation engineers to integrate electrical systems with overall project requirements. Communicating effectively with project stakeholders using software tools for design reviews updates and presentations.
Project Management:
Managing electrical design projects using project management tools. Planning scheduling budgeting resource allocation and progress tracking to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
Safety and Risk Management:
Utilizing software tools for conducting safety assessments risk analyses and hazard identification related to electrical systems. Implementing safety measures mitigation strategies and compliance checks to ensure the safety and integrity of designs.
Continuous Improvement:
Staying updated with advancements in electrical engineering software technologies and best practices through ongoing training selfstudy and professional development. Leveraging software tools for continuous improvement of design processes and workflows.
Key Skills / Requirements
Experience in electrical design and engineering within the oil and gas industry.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD Electrical) and electrical design tools.
Familiarity with industrystandard software tools for electrical analysis and simulation (e.g. ETAP SKM Power Tools).
Strong knowledge of electrical codes standards and regulations.
Excellent analytical problemsolving and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fastpaced environment.
