MUST BE COMMITTED, REQUIRED TO BE AWAY FROM HOME FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME DURING FIRE SEASON, (unless a family emergency occurs within immediate family). The purpose of the position is wildland fire suppression/management/control, as a skilled firefighter on an engine. Other wildland fire related duties might involve fire prevention, patrol, detection, or prescribed burning. The incumbent will also be involved with the maintenance and repair of firefighting tools, equipment, and facilities, and will receive firefighting training. Primary duties are directly connected with the control and extinguishment of fires and/or maintaining and using firefighter apparatus and equipment. The duties of these positions are so rigorous that employment is limited to physically vigorous individuals who meet established physical requirements.

Required to pass medical exam and arduous fitness test. Must have a telephone or reliable message phone, and be available and on call 24 hours a day during the fire season. Must subject to and pass a pre-employment drug screening.
