Position Overview: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. This position requires a flexible work schedule with the need to travel to offsite clinics and regional partners. Essential Functions: Assess needs and provides MNT to outpatients and inpatients according to evidenced based guidelines and policies. Provides diabetes education based on the 10 content areas specified by ADA (includes glucometer, and insulin teaching). Provides outpatient oncology services according to evidenced based guidelines and policies. Collaborates and communicates nutrition and/or diabetes interventions and goals to other caregivers, providers, patients and families to meet the patient MNT and/or diabetes goals. Schedules outpatients, documents and bills per policy. Provides community nutrition and diabetes education when requested. Provides clinical dietitian coverage as needed which can require support to food service operations through education on diet and food safety issues, and collaboration on inpatient needs. Provides cardiac rehab and other classes and support groups as needed. Supports the department and hospital in quality improvement and department specific projects (ie. Works on establishing Telehealth as an option for nutrition, and a certified diabetes program, assisting in implementation of software programs). Promotes the philosophy and mission of Montrose Regional Health. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned. Education and Work Experience: BS or MS in Nutrition and Dietetics; RDN Registration required. One year experience in outpatient and clinical nutrition preferred. Diabetes and Oncology experience highly desirable. Encompasses a wide range of disease states and appropriate nutrition therapy. It includes the ability to assess patients of all ages, provide individualized nutrition intervention and education, and communicate with families, physicians and other caregivers. Encompasses a good knowledge base of the 10 content areas of diabetes education. This includes the ability to assess the patient s learning needs, provide education and communicate with families, physicians and staff. CDE desirable. Knowledge of how to access information from the computer, journals, and textbooks as well as how to network with other caregivers is essential. Ability to effectively communicate, verbally, and non-verbally, in a clear, concise manner. Administrative and philosophical compatibility with Montrose Regional Health. Interpersonal skills and sound judgment necessary to communicate with a wide variety of persons including patients. The ability to make appropriate decisions based on fact and knowledge is required. The ability to perform detailed work required. The ability to work harmoniously with employees required. Must demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality and show good judgment. The ability to make decisions under pressure and deadlines required.
