Job Brief:

Our client a well reputable premier resort destination in the heart of Lilongwe City is currently seeking an experienced Human Resources Officerto join their dynamic team. As the HR Officer youll be a key member of the Executive Team reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

Your primary focus will be to oversee the daily operations of the human resources office. Responsibility for areas of recruiting employee relations benefits events workers compensation and other employee related tasks. Additionally you will be responsible for short and longterm planning of all the HR related functions like workforce planning recruitment staffing strategies wage and salary administration and associated labor relations benefits workforce training and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The HR Officer is responsible for the following duties:

  1. Administrative Duties
  • Implement corporate policies and procedures on compensation initiatives bonus and benefits.
  • Ensure that the organization follows the Malawian Labor laws and regulations.
  • Coordinates controls and inspects offices and all over the working place ensuring it is of the highest possible standards of cleanliness and comfort.
  • Assist in communication of key messages to all staff.
  • Assist in overseeing preparations of reports required by government agencies.
  • Oversee workers compensation program ensuring claims and reports are submitted on a timely basis.
  • Assist in the administration of the hotel social and staff benefits programs e.g. employee of the month leader of the month and other staff incentives.
  • Provide guidance to the leadership team regarding employee morale employee relations coaching counseling and discipline.
  • Responsible for all back office and administration tasks of the department
  • Develop and maintain confidential departmental staff and associated files documents pay scale details and /or other important databases.

2. Human Resource management

  • Administer the recruitment and hiring of all employees.
  • To ensure that company HR operational policies and processes are adhered to and continually approved.
  • To assist in all activities concerning the sourcing and recruitment of staff performance management staff discipline and HR administration
  • Continually assess employee morale by analyzing absenteeism and turnover records lateness and resignation
  • Ensure appraisals are carried out for every employee every 12 months or as per management policy and review all appraisals and follow up on development needs if required
  • Assist other departments heading the formulation of HR policies and procedures for their respective departments.
  • Assist with and ensure that all procedures concerning promotion and staff resignation are carried out within company policy and within legal boundaries.
  • Oversee the management of the recruiting process including position management and advertising.

3. Employee Training and mentorship

  • Coordinate and conduct departmental training and conduct new hire orientation program.
  • Conduct needs analysis develop implement and monitor training programs and materials.
  • Assist in developing and conducting management training on a variety of leadership and HR Topics
  • Support operational efforts through proper staffing and training of associates.

4. Employee Relations

  • Monitor employee working and attendance schedule including paid time off breaks and overtime.
  • Coordinate employee wellness and safety programs
  • Promote employee communication activities and channels to encourage and enable feedback from staff.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with staff representatives and ensure any employee grievances are monitored and resolved.
  • Encourage good standards of employee conduct and behavior and coordinate disciplinary procedures as and when necessary.


Skills and Experience

  • Five years human resource management experience in a medium to large corporation
  • Experience in hospitality accommodation and resort are a PLUS.
  • Have a strong background in employment employee relations benefits wages and salaries
  • employee training accident prevention and government regulation and policies.
  • Strong written and communication skills required with an understanding and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to manage conflict at work and should be a patient listener.
  • Ability to use Human Resource Management software.
  • Having strong knowledge of employment and labor laws of Malawi
  • Ability to embrace change if it is necessary.
