About the Business

A large successful multinational apparel manufacturer and supplier is seeking a talented Technical Designer (womenswear - tops and skirts) and Garment Technologist to join their business in New York.

The business turns over $300M a year, selling men, Womens and kidswear to US retailers and brands. Customers include GAP, VF Corp, PVH etc. Manufacturing is across Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, Indonesia etc.

The business has a small sales and design office in Midtown, NY. It is a full-time role. Hybrid working possible. The role reports to the Design Director.

Garment Technologist - The Role:

• Develop technical packs from design sketches from brands as well as designs submitted by internal teams
  
• Liaise with manufacturers/suppliers to ensure that the sample room technicians understand the details of the design and are able to put together the right samples the first time
  
• Manage the customer fits from the samples
  
• Ensure that fit comments are recorded correctly and work closely with manufacturing team to ensure that these are understood
  
• Manage the overall sample development process from a technical design and garment fitting point of view
  
  

Requirements

Garment Technologist - The Person:

You will be

• a strong Technical Designer with outerwear background and experience in Tops and Skirts
  
• have experience in working for a supplier or a manufacturer
  
• have experience in translating sketches to technical packs with detailed comments
  
• be experienced in managing prototype fitting and providing fit comments
  
• a problem solver when it comes to technical design, pattern making and sample development
  
• strong in technical design, running fit sessions and pattern making
  
• proactive and a fast learner
  
• able to manage your workload independently
