Dimensional Lumber Processing Subject Matter Expert SME

Job Description:

Responsibilities:

1. Initial Assessment:

• Collaborate with the head of IT for our large lumber company reviewing insights and data gathered during plant visits over the last two years.
• Analyze existing processes systems and operations to identify areas for improvement.

1. OnSite Plant Visits:

• Personally visit multiple plant locations in a short period.
• Meet with plant managers IT lead and other key stakeholders to gather insights understand current practices and assess areas of concern.

1. Strategic Analysis and Recommendations:

• Drive the strategic analysis of the clients business and provide recommendations.

1. IoT and AI Evaluation:

• Evaluate IoT devices and sensors to gather realtime data on production processes and equipment.
• Assess and recommend AI algorithms for predictive maintenance quality control and process optimization.

1. Automation Solutions:

• Evaluate and propose automation solutions to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

1. Digital Transformation Roadmap:

• Present a detailed roadmap for the digital transformation journey including timelines milestones and key deliverables.
• Outline a phased approach for evaluating digital technologies across Weyerhaeuser manufacturing plants.

1. Pilot Program:

• Select a specific plant within Weyerhaeuser to serve as a pilot for testing and refining digital transformation solutions.
• Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of the pilot program including improvements in productivity quality and emissions reduction.
• Ensure that the solutions planned for pilots can be easily scaled to other plants.

1. Emissions Reduction:

• Develop a comprehensive plan for reducing carbon emissions throughout the manufacturing process including energyefficient technologies and sustainable practices.

1. Environmental Monitoring:

• Propose systems for continuous monitoring and reporting of carbon emissions to meet regulatory requirements and sustainability goals.

1. Carbon Offsetting:

• Explore strategies for carbon offsetting or carbonneutral practices within the manufacturing operations.

Requirements:

• Prior experience as a plant manager or head of operations in a lumber mill.
• Indepth knowledge of dimensional lumber processing including sawmill operations drying grading and packaging.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess data and processes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently within a limited timeframe.
• Proven problemsolving and decisionmaking abilities.
