Lakeside HR Group has been engaged by a Plumbing and Mechanical Service Provider to recruit a Controller for their multi-family and commercial division of the company. In this new role, the Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial management and reporting functions for the multi-family and commercial divisions of the company. This key role requires a candidate with prior experience in multi-family or commercial construction industry and a strong understanding of financial systems, particularly Sage 300 and Sage Intacct. The ideal candidate will have advanced Excel skills and a history of successfully managing complex financial data. The Controller will report directly to the VP of Finance and will be supervising a team of two.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for construction projects, including budget vs. actual analysis, cost tracking, cash flow analysis, and profitability reports.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to create detailed project budgets and continuously monitor actual costs against budgeted amounts. Identify areas of cost overrun and recommend corrective actions.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely payment to vendors and collection from clients.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance financial processes and procedures to streamline operations and enhance efficiency, while adhering to established deadlines.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions related to projects.
  • Monitor cash flow for construction projects and implement strategies to optimize cash utilization while maintaining sufficient liquidity.
  • Utilize and maintain Sage 300 / Sage Intacct software systems proficiently, ensuring data accuracy and proper integration with other financial and operational systems.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in overseeing the monthly and quarterly book closure processes. They will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial statements are produced, reviewing, and reconciling various accounts, and resolving any discrepancies promptly.
  • Experience with handling accruals and prepaid expenses during the monthly and quarterly closing process is essential. The Controller will need to accurately assess and record expenses and revenues that have not yet been fully recognized in the financial statements, providing a comprehensive and up-to-date financial picture.
  • Well-versed in managing intercompany transactions during the closing process. They will ensure that intercompany accounts are accurately reconciled and eliminate any potential discrepancies between entities.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning. Present findings to the executive team and offer insights to optimize project performance.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and maintain compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry requirements.
  • Divisional responsibilities for annual budgeting and forecasting. This role will coordinate within the division first to roll up into a consolidated forecast.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Controller in the construction industry, preferably with a focus on multi-family or commercial construction projects.
  • Expertise in using Sage 300 and/or Sage Intacct software preferred.
  • Experience in inventory management and oversight of multiple locations a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, vlookup, and financial modeling.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide valuable insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and organized approach to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Supervision experience and leading a team of individuals preferred.
Salary:
  • $115k-$135k, DOE
