Circulation Assistant

Join an awardwinning Library! The Schaumburg Township District Library is looking for a Circulation Assistant to join our team. We are looking for an energetic competent and detailoriented Circulation Assistant to support our Central location. This part time hourly position averaging 20 hours a week.

Will have a set schedule including 3 weekday shifts between 8:30am 3:00pm each week with 2 Saturday shifts from 8:30am 5:00pm and 2 Sunday s hifts from 11:30am 5:00pm each month.

2 open positions available.

Our schedules are based on the needs of the library and could change if and when needed. The hourly rate range for this position is $14.11$17.63 based on skills and qualifications.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Circulation Assistant is responsible for assisting patron needs in the areas of reception registration materials holds and billing. The Circulation Assistant may need to register patrons for library programs or assist them with library equipment. The Circulation Assistant supports Circulation Supervisors in implementing new procedures. The Circulation Assistant is responsible for representing the Library to the public by upholding our customer service and professional standards.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL EMPLOYEES:

  • Ability to be a teamplayer and work pleasantly and effectively with all patrons and staff.
  • Ability to learn various job functions perform them correctly and understand their role in overall library operations.
  • Ability to independently function efficiently in a changing and varied environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on details.
  • Ability to follow all library policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates commitment to incorporating principles of Diversity Equity and Inclusion into everyday work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Checkin and checkout library materials collect payment for billed items or other fees frequently bend to lift and/or move materials around the department search the library for missing materials retrieve hold requests and shelve materials as needed.
  • Assist patrons in locating materials place materials on hold for patrons and investigate issues with patron holds.
  • Create new patron accounts register reciprocal library cards and maintain accurate data entry.
  • Assist with library program logistics maintain statistics and route calls to the appropriate location.
  • Assist the public with selfservice resources including computers photocopiers printers scanners and fax machines as needed.
  • Assist in the opening and closing procedures of the building.
  • Attend meetings training or committees as required or requested.
  • Abide by all policies and procedures of the Library.
  • Address situations where patrons do not comply with the Library’s Code of Conduct.
  • Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patron and employee confidentiality.
  • Communicate clearly either in person on the telephone or in writing.
  • Cope with the stress of the job and have a good relationship with coworkers.
  • Maintain the ability and patience to understand and to be understood by all patrons regardless of their level of communication.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of word processing spreadsheet email web and database applications is desired.
