Job Summary

The Building Maintenance Worker (BMW) provides building maintenance operations for
the university.

The incumbent performs a broad range of preventative maintenance and repair work
including furniture installation and repair lock hardware repairs minor painting minor
carpentry and minor plumbing work. The BMW coordinates the timing and completion of
contract services to ensure the efficiency of contracted work.

In addition the incumbent participates as a liaison for special events assisting in the
coordination of setup and tear down as required. The BMW participates as a member of
the university Emergency Response Team and provides assistance in evacuation in the
event of an emergency

Qualifications

  • Certification in building systems or maintenance programs (such as BOMA BOMI IFMA LEEDS) preferred or equivalent education or experience in basic trades related fields.
  • Two (2) years related building maintenance experience.
  • Valid Class 5 BC drivers license.
  • WHMIS certification is required.
  • Ability to lift 50-60 pounds.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and discern primary areas of focus.
  • A working knowledge of computers and building control systems is required.
  • Experience in the coordinating and monitoring of trades personnel and contractors is desirable.
  • Required to work in environments exposed to toxic fumes loud noise dust extreme temperatures heights and equipment with moving parts that requires employee to be cognizant of all safety protocols & procedures inherent in their field making use of professional protection equipment such as ear plugs safety glasses respirators and gloves.
  • Duties require a high degree of physical exertion including bending down kneeling crouching for extended periods of time pulling pushing manually carrying lifting & transporting heavy objects.
  • Required to work in inclement weather conditions ranging from extreme cold periods of rain snow ice freezing rain high winds to extreme hot periods and heat waves.
