Lead Quality Technician

PG Bison a proudly South African leader in the decorative wood panel industry is seeking for a motivated Lead Quality Technician to join our Upgrading Department team at Boksburg Site. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading quality control activities ensuring products meet company and customer standards and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing process. This role requires strong analytical skills attention to detail and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced production environment.

The Final Inspection Lead Quality Technician is responsible for safeguarding and continuously improving product quality within the Upgrading section. The role involves comprehensive inspection of raw materials in process boards and finished products to ensure full compliance with quality standards procedures and specifications while providing timely and effective feedback to production teams.

Raw Material Quality Inspection

• Inspect incoming raw boards to the Upgrading Plant for:
• Edge appearance
• Surface quality
• Sanding quality
• Flatness and squareness
• Edge-print quality.
• Inspect treated paper received from PTP ensuring:
• Packaging integrity and squareness
• Surface appearance and uniformity

MFB Outfeed Quality Inspection

• Verify edge-trim and edge-print quality.
• Identify surface defects and confirm the effectiveness of dust extraction systems.
• Ensure production teams conduct Top Board assessments correctly.
• Perform independent surface inspections on stacks at outfeed.
• Use the BLACKBOX system for objective assessment of difficult colours and textures.
• Consult closely with the Board Grader regarding quality observations trends and deviations.
• Inspect packing and stacking quality at MFB outfeed.
• Correct labelling and full traceability

Foil Outfeed Quality Inspection

• Verify edge-trim and edge-print quality.
• Identify surface defects and assess dust extraction performance.
• Ensure correct execution of Top Board assessments by production.
• Conduct independent surface inspections on stacks at outfeed.
• Collaborate regularly with Board Graders on quality trends and concerns.
• Inspect packing and stacking quality at foil outfeed.

Hot-Coating Process Quality Control

• Inspect MFB boards entering HC-1 and HC-2.
• Verify PUR adhesive spread quality after hot-coating.
• Assess BC-2 surface quality prior to sanding.
• Check sanding quality before boards enters Room-2.
• Evaluate topcoat application quality.
• Perform detailed surface finish inspections before protective film application.

Final Board Pack Inspection (F01)

• Verify correct labelling and edge-printing on finished board packs.
• Check pack squareness and strapping quality.
• Evaluate overall product presentation and visual appearance.

Continuous Process Monitoring

• Conduct regular roaming inspections throughout the Upgrading section.
• Complete daily inspection rounds and checklists accurately and on time.
• Maintain continuous and proactive quality oversight during shifts.

Communication and Collaboration

• Maintain ongoing communication with the Production Coordinator.
• Provide real-time quality feedback and guidance to production teams.

Reporting and Escalation

• Report all serious quality deviations promptly to the QA Manager via WhatsApp.
• Escalate critical non-conformances in accordance with company procedures.

• Grade 12 / Matric preferably Science & Maths
• ISO 9001 Quality Management Training
• National Diploma in Production Management / Wood Technology / Engineering (advantageous)
