The Paso Robles Community Services Department is seeking a service-oriented part-time Recreation Services Representative to join our this role you will support the day-to-day operations of our recreation facilities and programs while providing excellent customer service to participants and visitors. From supporting activities and assisting patrons to helping maintain safe organized and welcoming spaces you will play an important role in creating positive experiences for community members of all ages. Afternoon and evening availability is required with occasional Saturday shifts to support events as needed.This part-time position is generally scheduled for 16 to 18 hours per week.

The Organization

The City of Paso Robles was incorporated in 1889 as a general law city and operates under the Council-Manager form of government. As of January 1 2025 the Citys population has grown to approximately 31061 reflecting consistent growth over recent years as more residents are drawn to the Citys high quality of life strong community identity and comprehensive municipal services.

The City is a full-service municipality meaning it provides a wide range of essential public services directly to its residents. These include police and fire protection emergency medical response water and wastewater utilities parks and recreation planning and development services public works and community enrichment programs. The City is committed to delivering responsive effective and efficient services that enhance the well-being of its residents and support a safe sustainable and vibrant community.

The governing body consists of a five-member City Council: the Mayor elected at large by the voters of the City; and four Councilmembers elected by district. Voters also elect one City Treasurer at-large. All six elected positions are non-partisan. The City Manager appointed by the City Council serves as the Chief Executive Officer and is authorized to appoint all non-elected employees with the exception of the City Attorney.

The City operates with a total annual budget of $145.7 million for fiscal year 2025-26 and employs 314.44 full-time equivalent positions across the departments of Administrative Services City Managers Office Community Development Community Services Fire and Emergency Services Police Public Works and Utilities.

The Department

The Community Services Department provides programs services and events that enhance quality of life and foster community connection. The Department includes Library Services Recreation Services Parks and Trails Maintenance and Homeless Services divisions.


The Recreation Services Divisions mission is to create a better community through people programs places and experiences. This is achieved by offering recreational and special event programming that promotes personal enrichment fitness and well-being for people of all ages.


Typical Duties

The following duties are typical of this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the duties set forth below and/or may be required to perform additional related duties to address City needs and evolving business practices.

  • Opens closes and secures recreation facilities in accordance with scheduled programs rentals and user group needs.
  • Monitors facility use afterschool programs and Teen Center activities to ensure participant safety appropriate behavior and compliance with established rules and policies; addresses minor issues or conflicts as they arise.
  • Provides customer service by greeting visitors responding to inquiries and providing accurate information regarding programs services and facility use.
  • Supports recreation programs and activities by assisting with implementation and providing basic supervision of participants.
  • Performs program and event support duties including setup and breakdown of rooms equipment and activity spaces; ensures equipment is used and stored properly.
  • Processes program registrations facility reservations and related transactions using designated software systems.
  • Maintains facility cleanliness organization and safety; conducts routine checks and reports maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Supports community events (e.g. concerts and seasonal programs) including setup cleanup crowd monitoring and coordination of supplies and equipment.
  • Provides support for youth-focused programs including Teen Center operations game and activity areas and structured and unstructured recreation.

Employment Standards & Special Requirements

Knowledge of:

  • Safe work practices including facility safety procedures and emergency response awareness.
  • Techniques for monitoring participant behavior and ensuring compliance with established rules and guidelines.

  • Modern office practices including use of computers and standard software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office).
  • English usage grammar spelling and punctuation.
  • Basic recordkeeping and data entry practices.
  • Applicable policies procedures and regulations related to assigned programs and facility operations.

Human Relations and Communications Skills
Regular contact within the department and periodic contact with other departments outside agencies or the general public to exchange specialized information.

Analytical Skills and Complexity
Performs routine repetitive tasks and processes that require selecting and executing actions based on clearly defined and well-established procedures.

Education and Experience
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a General Educational Development (GED) certificate; and
  • One year of experience in recreation programs community services customer service youth programs event support or a related field.

Bilingual and biliterate proficiency in Spanish is desirable.
