PRIMARY PURPOSE: Works as part of the Denton ISD Agricultural Dept. Team to develop district level procedures manage barn develop district level activities travel and develop key partnerships with Alumni and Advisory committee; implements and manages the agricultural science program for assigned campus; provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth; enables students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate in agricultural science

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of agricultural science and technology
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to supervise agricultural field experiences
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:
At least one year student teaching or approved internship

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Oversees Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP) including assisting students in selecting and managing projects and supervising school farm.
  • Serves as advisor to local Future Farmers of American (FFA) chapter including planning and conducting leadership citizenship cooperative career development and competitive activities for students at local regional and state level.
  • Assists with planning and delivery of adult education and community programs relating to agricultural science and technology.
  • Develops and implements lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Conducts assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Works cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Works with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plans and supervises assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Helps students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsors outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students support mission of school district.
  • Creates classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  • Manages student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Accompanies and supervises students at all off-campus activities including contests workshops and field trips associated with the agricultural science program and FFA.
  • Oversees process of maintaining facilities and equipment including school farm.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  • Assists in selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.
  • Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participates in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keeps informed of and complies with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compiles maintains and files all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent standing stooping bending kneeling pushing and pulling; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions


APPOINTMENT: The appointment of this position will be recommended to the Board of Trustees by the Superintendent of Schools on the basis of the applicants training experience and expertise. The Board of Trustees must give final approval.
