Job Summary

TITLE: CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION SPECIALIST

TYPE:Unit B Catergory I Work Year: 200 Days

SALARY:Per Unit B Collective Bargaining Agreement

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

OBJECTIVE:

The Curriculum and Instruction Specialist is a deliberate coach and effective manager responsible for helping teachers and students reach their full potential. The Specialist provides high-quality culturally responsive job embedded coaching and feedback to teachers so they can further develop their skill set. The Specialist ensures that teachers design and implement instructional programs that develop mastery and skills appropriate for each grade level and content area while meeting the individual needs of the student. The Specialist works cooperatively with the building administration to develop a school-wide culture of continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Use data to inform decision making to develop and modify curriculum and to develop targeted and differentiated instruction.
  2. Responsible for overview of curriculum maps lesson plans assessments and grading procedures.
  3. Coordinate and determine with the building administration the need for curricular materials assessment materials and instructional resources.
  4. Serve on the school Instructional Leadership Team; collaborate with the team to determine school-wide professional development curriculum and assessment needs to meet all school goals.
  5. Provide a wide variety of learning opportunities for teachers on analyzing student work effective planning targeted and differentiated instruction and creating a positive classroom culture.
  6. Coach and formally evaluate selected staff.
  7. Meet regularly with teachers to discuss data trends and problem-solve to prioritize teacher actions that will most impact student performance.
  8. Serve as test Specialist for state and local assessments.
  9. Perform other responsibilities as determined by the building principal.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  1. Masters degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  2. A valid Massachusetts educator license as an Administrator.
  3. Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement.

Knowlege Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge and ability to implement MA DESE Evaluation regulations.
  2. Ability to be flexible to work and communicate with parents teachers students and administrators to effect desired outcomes.
  3. Ability to understand the climate of the building and to work effectively in different situations.
  4. Ability to acknowledge problems and to resolve them in positive ways.
  5. Ability to set high personal standards that staff and other administrators respect.
  6. Ability to be flexible to work with principals parents teachers and other administrators to effect desired outcomes.

ADA and Minimum Qualifications to Perform Essential Job Functions:

  1. Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers copiers adding machines etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift carry push and pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
  2. Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data people or things.
  3. Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants.
  4. Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence reports forms newsletters schedules manuals invoices requisitions menus recipes journals etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence reports forms evaluations procedures charts surveys articles bid specifications brochures news releases handbooks budgets etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation grammar diction and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise voice control and confidence.
  5. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  6. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical legal accounting and marketing terminology.
  7. Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of algebra and geometry.
  8. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length width and shape.
  9. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  10. Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  11. Interpersonal: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
  12. Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk (express or exchange ideas by means of spoken words) and hear (perceive nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone.
