Job Summary

Job Description

The Associate Director for Experiential Learning contributes to university-wide leadership and coordinated management of professional development focused on empowering and supporting Virginia Tech faculty to develop and integrate experiential learning into programs of study. The associate directors responsibilities include (a) provide a system for supporting faculty with the knowledge skills and tools they need to develop deep and meaningful experiential learning opportunities and embed them in students plans of study; (b) lead and grow existing experiential learning programming including the Experiential Learning Certificate retreats and workshops (c) develop implement and evaluate new professional development programs focused on advancing faculty members understanding application and implementation of effective experiential learning pedagogies;(d) facilitate communication and coordination with faculty and administrators engaged in experiential learning; and (e) serve on university committees task forces and other groups as an advocate for high quality integrated experiential learning; and function in a year-round (CY) academic program planning and management capacity.

Required Qualifications

Masters degree in education program management or related field.
Experience teaching in an experiential learning program or with experiential learning
implementation.
Experience developing implementing and assessing faculty development
programming for teaching and learning.
Knowledge of and experience applying essential principles of experiential learning in
higher education.
Professionalism and successfully working as part of a team.
Ability to communicate effectively across a range of stakeholders including faculty
members staff administrators students and external agencies.
Excellent written spoken and visual communication.
Ability to work well in a collaborative atmosphere.

Preferred Qualifications

An earned doctorate by time of appointment.
Experience working on a large-scale experiential learning initiative.
Experience developing and managing a professional development certificate for
faculty.
Experience with program-level student learning outcomes assessment for continuous
improvement.
Experience developing and leading professional development in civic engagement.
Knowledge of best practices around Course Based Undergraduate Research (CUREs).
Experience leading professional development around mentoring in higher education.
