Stipend: $10000
Internship Role: This role will help you gain a better understanding of psychological practice and its application in the school environment. Depending on interest and availability school psychologists and school adjustment counselors can support your learning across grade levels (Pre-K through 12th Grade). Depending on your career goals supervision for clinical licensure can also be provided by a doctoral-level licensed clinical psychologist. The following are some opportunities available within our district:
Evaluation: A crucial aspect of learning is the development of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) within the special education framework. You will thoroughly understand the IDEA classification criteria and the collaborative approach required to assess childrens eligibility for special education services. This knowledge will be gained through conducting psychoeducational evaluations and enhancing your grasp of integrating psychological practices into school including:
- Record Reviews
- Parent Teacher & Student Interviews
- Observations
- Assessment
- Attending the IEP meeting to review results
Consultation: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop a student intervention or support plan. This includes attending Student Support Team meetings and regularly consulting with School Adjustment Counselors Occupational Therapists Speech-Language Pathologists and General and Special Education Teachers.
Counseling/Intervention: There are multiple opportunities depending on interests and availability. These opportunities could include facilitating groups and individual cases with a focus on:
- Academics: Reading Writing and Mathematics
- Executive Functioning support
- Social Skills support
- Mood and Anxiety support
Supervision/Teaching/Research (Optional): Available to supervise or support teachers knowledge of mental health and academic content.
- Present topics of interest during Professional Development
- Train Special Educators on achievement assessments and interpretation
- Research opportunities are also available
