POSITION FUNCTION

Coordinate and participate in the installation maintenance and removal of road markings and sign and posts and removal of graffiti.

KEY DUTIES

Coordinate assign review and participate in the work of approximately three staff; ensure schedules procedures and established performance and safety standards are met; provide employee training and input to employee performance appraisal.

Perform any combination of tasks pertinent to the installation maintenance and removal of road features such as painted road and curb markings and symbols signs signposts pavement markers and bollards; excavate and mix and place concrete for installation of signposts; clean and prepare surfaces for paint application; mark out layout prior to installation; place and collect cones and signs in work area; set up traffic control as required.

Read and interpret engineering drawings sketches plans and utility information sheets; make recommendations regarding on-site changes to engineering designs; attend pre-construction and site meetings with engineers and contractors; provide input to job cost estimates;

Determine and order materials staff resources and equipment required daily; purchase materials and reconcile purchase card statements; review job matters and schedules with outside agencies contractors and City departments; respond to enquiries and complaints from the public as required; complete a variety of records and reports such as safety and regulatory documentation work orders maintenance and installation records inspection reports equipment requisitions and time sheets; notify pertinent agencies utilities business and residences as required.

Operate a vehicle and trailer for transport of equipment staff and materials; replace overhead signs by use of aerial lift truck as assigned; operate various power equipment such as a thermoplastic pre-melter airless spray or pneumatic paint machine line grinder infrared heater manual line painter post straightener and applicator kettle; perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paint machines spray guns and other equipment; load and unload equipment manually or using a forklift.

Remove or paint over graffiti from City property.

Perform related duties where qualified.

INDEPENDENCE

Work is assigned on a project basis and reviewed while in progress.

Issues such as changes to project design and scheduling are referred to supervisor and technicians with recommendations

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Supervise a small staff.

Organize and prioritize the work of a crew.

Understand and apply the methods and principles of sign and road marking installation and maintenance.

Read and interpret engineering plans utility information sheets and grade sheets.

Operate various hand and power tools and painting equipment.

Operate aerial lift truck.

Operate paint application vehicles.

Maintain accurate records.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Deal effectively with the public and outside agencies.

Work and operate equipment safely.

Understand and follow all safe work procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education Training and Occupational Certification:

Highschool graduation

Completion of Certification in Road Marking Application. (24 hours)

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers Licence

Experience:

3 years of sign and road marking installation and maintenance experience including supervisory

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER:

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
