Monash University is seeking an exceptional academic leader to serve as Professor and Director of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (Monash BDI) and Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences. Learn more about the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute and the School of Biomedical Sciences at Monash BDI brings together more than 120 research groups across interdisciplinary programs spanning Infection and Immunity Cancer Cardiovascular Disease Development and Stem Cells Metabolism Neuroscience and related areas. The School of Biomedical Sciences delivers disciplinebased education across biomedical science and contributes extensively to teaching across Monashs health professional programs supported by worldclass research and teaching infrastructure.
As Professor and Director you will provide visionary academic and strategic leadership to advance the BDIs national and international reputation as a worldclass centre for discovery research and education. You will lead the development of a shared vision for the Institute and School drive strategic and operational planning and foster a culture of excellence collaboration and innovation across research teaching and engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership aligned with SubFaculty Faculty and University priorities
- Lead academic planning resource allocation and operational performance across the BDI and School
- Strengthen research excellence through competitive grant success interdisciplinary collaboration and highimpact scholarly output
- Provide leadership in teaching curriculum development and research training
- Build strong partnerships across Monash government industry clinical networks and international collaborators
- Lead and develop a large and diverse academic community supporting staff capability performance and wellbeing
- Manage a significant budget and ensure effective stewardship of resources
About you
You will be a distinguished academic with an international profile in biomedicine or a related discipline recognised for outstanding scholarly achievement research leadership and contributions to education. You will bring demonstrated experience leading complex academic units strong strategic and operational capability and a collaborative inclusive leadership style. You will have a clear vision for the future of biomedicine in Australia and globally and the ability to inspire and lead a large multidisciplinary community.
Appointment
This is a continuing professorial appointment with the role of Director Monash BDI and Head of School appointed for up to five years with the possibility of renewal.
