We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Recreational Aide to support residents in a long-term care and skilled nursing environment. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about improving quality of life through engaging recreational and therapeutic activities while providing supportive patient care.
Position Overview
The Recreational Aide will independently plan organize and implement recreational activities designed to meet the physical emotional social and cognitive needs of residents. The position works under the supervision of a Recreational Therapist Occupational Therapist Activities Coordinator or Nursing leadership.
Plan and conduct recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to residents interests abilities and limitations
Facilitate group and individual activities to encourage participation and engagement
Maintain and update activity calendars and schedules
Assist with community outings and leisure excursions including shopping trips picnics restaurants theaters and scenic rides
Resident Assessment & Support
Collaborate with supervisors to assess and reassess residents activity interests and needs
Observe and document resident participation and responses to activities
Provide one-on-one interaction and engagement as needed
Coordination & Logistics
Coordinate with staff to ensure supplies equipment and materials are available and functioning properly
Prevent scheduling conflicts with other departments and services
Coordinate with dietary staff regarding special meals ethnic food requests or off-site dining arrangements
Equipment & Inventory Management
Prepare set up clean up and store activity equipment and supplies
Operate and maintain audiovisual and recreational equipment
Assist with inventory control and report supply shortages or equipment concerns
Patient Care Assistance
Support Certified Nurse Aides and licensed staff with patient care tasks including:
Toileting
Bathing
Dressing
Grooming
Transport residents during community activities and outings
Additional Duties
Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and assigned committees
Follow facility policies procedures and safety protocols
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of Recreational Aide experience required
Experience with MDS documentation is required
Previous experience in long-term care skilled nursing or rehabilitation settings preferred
Ability to independently implement recreational treatment plans
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work effectively with residents families and interdisciplinary teams
Required Certifications
Active CNA Certification required
Active BLS certification required
Current active state license/certification as applicable
Preferred Skills & Knowledge
Knowledge of recreational therapy principles and leisure programming
Understanding of human growth and development
Ability to adapt activities based on resident capabilities and therapeutic goals
Strong organizational and time-management skills
