Life Saving Victoria (LSV) is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably skilled volunteers to step into the role of State Communications Duty Officer (SCDO).
About the Volunteer Role
The Volunteer State Communications Duty Officer (SCDO) plays a key role in overseeing the coordination of the LSV radio communications network andState LifesavingCommunication Centre(LSVComms). Working as part of an oncall roster the SCDO provides level one triage and operational support for radio communications responding to member enquiries and supporting daytoday LSVComms operations.
The role works closely with the LSVComms Supervisor State Duty Officer (SDO) and external Victorian Radio Network (VRN) stakeholders to ensure continuity reliability and effective escalation of communications issues.
As a Volunteer State Communications Duty Officer (SCDO) you will:
- Providefirstpointofcontact coordination level one triage and operational support for the LSV radio communications network and Radio Command Centre (LSVComms)
- Respond to member enquiries and manage information sharing notifications and tasking related to VRN and LSVComms operations
- Monitor daily LSVComms operations and act as the first escalation point for operational or technical issuesimpacting communications
- Provide communications advice network support and nonstandard approval (where delegated) to the State Duty Officer and LSVComms Supervisor assessing broader operational impacts
- Liaise with VRN representatives and support the LSVComms Supervisor including contributing to team welfare and participatingin anoncallroster for operational and emergency response
WhatWereLooking For
- At least two years prior experience within the Communications Team ideally as a Communications Supervisor
- Demonstrated experience working within radio communications operational support or emergency services environments
- Strong understanding of operational communications and escalation processes
- Ability to assess operational impacts and respond effectively to urgent issues
- Clear and effective communication skills both verbal and written
- Capacity to work autonomously while supporting and guiding others
- Ability toparticipatein anoncallroster and respond outside of standard hours
