Job Summary

Chapman University seeks applications for part-time lecturers to teach courses in its graduate programs (Elementary/Multiple Subject Secondary/Single Subject: English Math Science History/Social Science and Music Education Specialist/Special Education) in Teacher Education in Summer and Fall. Contracts begin a week or two prior to the academic term and conclude when grades are due.

  • Responsibilities
    This is a part-time lecturer position in Teacher Education for Summer and Fall academic terms that requires work to be performed in Orange California and has in-person teaching responsibilities and required on-campus availability at Chapmans Orange campus.

    Different courses may have openings each academic term and summer courses meet once or twice a week in the late afternoon and/or evening hours. Please review the Graduate Catalog at and specify which courses you are most interested in and qualified to teach (all courses are found in the catalog under Attallah Colleges section).

    The lecturer will collaborate with the Director of Teacher Education Programs to design the assigned course section from existing course syllabi and outlines with consultation and mentorship.

    Responsibilities each week include preparing course lesson plans coordinating class materials holding office hours and grading assignments submitted by the students. The lecturer must be available to attend instructor meetings periodically. Finally as a nationally-accredited program all part-time lecturers are responsible for providing data on all accreditation-related assignments replying to all college surveys submitting requested updated information and maintaining open and ongoing communication with Chapman University faculty staff and students through their assigned Chapman email throughout the duration of employment at Chapman University.



    The successful candidate will teach advise and mentor students in the Teacher Education Programs.

    Required Qualifications:

    • EarnedMastersdegree in Education Curriculumand InstructionLiteracyLearning Sciences Special Education or related field from an accredited institution.
    • Valid California clear teaching credentialin the area ofthe course to be taught (multiplesubjectsinglesubject(math social scienceELAscienceormusic)specialeducation (mild/moderateextensive support needsincludingexpertisein assistive technology and/or reading and literacy specialist).
    • Current knowledge of the adopted California P-12 content standardsframeworksand accountability systems.
    • Knowledge of diversity in society including diverse abilities culture language ethnicity and gender orientation.
    • Demonstration of professional practices in teaching and learning scholarship and service.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current TPE and TPA requirements for teacher education candidates.
    • Ability to teach in person in Orange California.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Earned doctorate (e.g. Ed.D. Ph.D.) in Education Curriculumand Instruction Learning Sciences Special Education or related field from an accredited institution.
    • Dual credential (multiple or single subjectplusEducation Specialist (special education)) and/or NBCT certification.
    • Minimum 5yearsK-12 teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of science of Reading Dyslexia Identification and support as well as literacy interventions.
    • Experience ininclusive education and differentiated instruction.
    • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity inclusion and multicultural competence in education and must be willing to contribute to the University Diversity and Inclusion plan.
    • Experience teaching mentoring or supervising preservice teachers.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
    • Strong commitment to student learning quality teachingand academic excellence
    • Demonstrated ability to motivate and teachstudents ofdiverse learning styles and backgrounds.
    • Appreciation and respect for studentrole contribution and responsibility in the learning process.
