Responsibilities

The Violence Intervention Specialist (VIS) provides direct support to patients enrolled in the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) and their families. The VIS works with patients at high risk of gun violence and assault injury building trust and ensures seamless transition from the hospital to community care including assessing community and recovery resource needs and developing personalized risk reduction plans with the patient. This position facilitates patient-centered care plans that integrate evidence-based theory with practical application emphasizing holistic recovery from violent injury. Assisting patients in accessing health system and community resources with cultural competence and coordinating referrals to supportive services. The VIS will work in collaboration with the CRMC Trauma Program external organizations and hospital staff to enhance VIP patient support services and contribute to program development and research initiatives.

Qualifications

Education
o High School Diploma High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
Experience
o Experience working with people affected by violence or involved with the justice system required
o Experience in risk reduction and de-escalation methods required
Licenses and Certifications
o VPP - Violence Prevention Professional Certification required within 1 year of hire or transfer into position
o SBE - Social-Behavioral-Educational Comprehensive course by CITI Program required within 90 days of hire or transfer into position
o BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required
o MHFA - Mental Health First Aid training preferred within 1 year of hire or transfer into position
Other Qualifications / Notes
Applicants with personal experience in overcoming violence violence-related injuries and/or justice system are encouraged to apply.
