Position: Youth Prevention Specialist Part Time
Hours: 37.5 /52 wks.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the HIP Program Manager and with functional guidance from the Youth Prevention Services Coordinator the Youth Prevention Specialist is responsible for delivering youth centered HIV STI and HCV prevention and intervention services. This role engages young people ages 13 24 through individual and group education risk reduction counseling and sexual health promotion. The Specialist supports a trauma informed culturally responsive approach and helps ensure that youth receive accurate information client centered guidance and supportive navigation to medical behavioral health and social services.
The Specialist plays a hands on role in facilitating evidence based interventions youth engagement activities and educational sessions that promote healthy decision making and reduce risk behaviors. Responsibilities include conducting intakes and assessments providing referrals to HIV/STD/HCV testing and treatment services coordinating youth activities and supporting youth leadership initiatives such as Youth Health Advocate (YHA) meetings and trainings. The Specialist helps strengthen connections with schools community organizations health providers and other youth serving programs to promote accessibility and continuity of prevention services.
Additionally the Youth Prevention Specialist participates in outreach and community based engagement efforts to recruit youth build program visibility and connect young people to resources that support their overall well being. The Specialist maintains accurate documentation supports data reporting and adheres to confidentiality requirements HIPAA and NYS HIV confidentiality laws. By providing high quality youth engagement education advocacy and support the Youth Prevention Specialist helps advance program goals and contributes to ABC s mission to improve the health and wellness of vulnerable youth populations.
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree preferred in Health Science Community Health Youth/Family Counseling Education Human/Community Services Youth Development or related fields.
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in human services health education youth development counseling advocacy or related fields ideally in a community-based setting.
- Experience with outreach recruitment training/workshop facilitation program planning community engagement and special events.
- Experience working with high risk youth LGBTQ youth and diverse communities.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of high-impact HIV/STD/HCV prevention strategies and ability to deliver accurate prevention and intervention education.
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to engage and build rapport with youth and community members.
- Strong public speaking facilitation group dynamics and youth-engagement skills.
- Ability to conduct recruitment intake assessment and documentation; strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to maintain databases records reports and participant documentation.
- Understanding of confidentiality standards (HIPAA NYS Confidentiality Laws) and ability to work within a client centered culturally sensitive framework.
- Ability to work independently manage multiple priorities and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Valid NYS Driver s License and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed; ability to travel locally and throughout NYS as required.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work occurs in an office setting and in a variety of community locations (e.g. community-based organizations mobile testing units health facilities residences). The role may require prolonged sitting for documentation data entry counseling and reporting. Occasional bending stooping kneeling or crouching may be required. May occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds (materials/supplies). Specific vision abilities include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
