Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Grants and Workforce Development the Apprenticeship Training Teachers role is to teach the curriculum approved by the state board of examiners to prepare students to take and pass the journeyman exam in their trade.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches the board-approved curriculum in the tier or level assigned to achieve the course level learning outcomes so students are prepared to move to the next level.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • As much as possible adapt the program of study to meet the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Encourages adult students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior and work ethic.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives and communicates these to adult students.
  • Ensures accuracy and best practices for compliance with organizational standards.
  • Keeps detailed attendance records and submit them as instructed.
  • Keeps current in discipline and teaching techniques.
  • Remains current in the field.
  • Supervises the classroom and students.
  • Any other relative teaching duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A high school diploma and journeyman status in the trade to be taught is required; a college degree and prior teaching experience preferably in a vocational high school setting or any combination of education and work experience. Five years of recent (within the last seven years) of full-time employment experience directly related to vocational teaching area is preferred.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

Journeyman status in the trade to be taught.

ABILITY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write business correspondence; ability to effectively prepare lesson plans in accordance with district standards. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students..
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
  • OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students and peers; ability to work effectively with all staff at all levels of the school district; skills in oral and written communication is required.
