TheData Digital & AI (DDAI)function defines and executes the divisions data digital and AI strategypartnering with business leaders to unlock value through advanced analytics responsible AI and modern digital platforms.

Additionally the team plays a critical role in enabling smarter decisions improving customer experience andmaintainingstrong risk and regulatory standards.

In this hands-on and fast-paced role you will -

• Lead thetechnical design engineering and continuous improvementof Westpacs AI Services and AI Engineering capability.
• Champion and personallyoperatewithin anAIfirstsoftware development lifecycle wherewe are accountable andset intent and guardrails and AI helps generate test deploy and evidence outcomes.
• Deliverhighimpactendtoendengineering outcomesusing agentic AI tools alongside modern softwaredataand platform engineering practices.
• Establishreusable reference patternsacross intent design build verificationdeploymentand monitoring.
• Codifystandards guardrails evidencemodelsandgovernancebydesignpatternsto ensure AI is safecompliantand scalable.
• Ensure solutions meet enterprise requirements forresilience security privacy Responsible AI regulatorycomplianceand operability.
• Integrate AI Services seamlessly with enterprise platforms datachannelsand delivery systems.
• Drive automation observabilityself-healingand cost optimisation across AI Services.
• Coach and uplift engineersarchitectsand product teams inAIpoweredengineering ways of working.
• Be accountable fortechnical quality architectural integrityscalabilityand operational excellence.

Importantly this role is bothstrategic and deeplyhandsonyoullset the standard and actively do the work.

Essential Skills&Experience

• Highly developed people leadershipand stakeholder managementexpertiseas gained incomplex corporate enterprise settings.
• Advanced and deepSenior Staff or ChiefEngineer levelexperience designing and delivering complex systems acrosscloud data integrationAPIand AI platforms.
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevanttechnology discipline.
• Deep understanding of advanced analytics ML systems and emergingagentic AI patterns.
• Stronghandsonengineering capability acrossarchitecture coding testing CI/CD IaC deploymentobservabilityand operations.
• Deep experience withAI service engineering including LLMs RAG agentic workflows prompt/contextengineeringand modern data stores.
• A strong foundationinDevSecOpssecurebydesignengineering SRE and operational resilience.
• Demonstrable experience embeddinggovernancetraceabilityandauditreadycontrolsdirectly into engineering workflows.
• A passion forcoaching capability uplift and setting engineering standards at scale.
• Comfortoperatingin highly regulated environments balancing innovation with risksecurityand compliance.
