As our Senior Sustainable Design Strategist / Environmental Engineer you will be part of Rambolls multidisciplinary Buildings team in APAC and play a key role in growing our Environmental Sustainable Design (ESD) presence in Malaysia based in our Kuala Lumpur office.
This role is ideal for someone who combines strong sustainable building design knowledge with a passion for client engagement business development and growing active networks in the Malaysian and regional market.
You will support and lead a wide range of projects across multiple sectors in Asia while contributing to the strategic growth of Rambolls ESD services in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
You will also help shape the direction of the KL ESD team by expanding our client portfolio developing high-performance building projects and ensuring the delivery of innovative practical and sustainable design solutions for the built environment.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to the development of strategic plans and growth goals for Rambolls ESD business in Malaysia.
- Support office resource planning including mentoring and developing junior engineers and consultants.
- Assist in managing project revenue targets project performance and operational budgets.
- Promote a culture of innovation by supporting the adoption of advanced digital workflows automation and data-driven design processes.
- Help strengthen collaboration between Malaysia Singapore and the wider Ramboll APAC Buildings team.
2. Business Development and Client Networking
- Actively grow Rambolls network by building strong relationships with developers architects government agencies contractors and industry partners in Malaysia.
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities emerging markets and potential clients.
- Support and lead bid submissions proposal development fee negotiations and client presentations.
- Position Ramboll as a thought leader in sustainable design by representing the firm at industry conferences technical forums and client events.
- Develop long-term client relationships that support repeat business and regional growth.
3. Technical Excellence and Sustainable Design Delivery
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for ESD projects from early concept design through to project completion.
- Lead sustainability strategies for high-performance buildings including passive design active systems integration low-carbon design and climate-responsive solutions.
- Provide consultancy for green building certifications including GBI GreenRE LEED and other relevant regional certification frameworks.
- Guide the team in advanced building performance analysis including energy modelling thermal comfort studies daylight analysis solar studies and environmental simulations.
- Collaborate closely with architects MEP engineers civil engineers landscape consultants and construction teams to integrate sustainable design principles into projects.
- Support the integration of sustainability strategies with MEP systems to deliver practical efficient and buildable solutions.
Qualifications :
We are looking for a motivated and commercially minded sustainability professional with relevant experience in the ESD industry.
Educational Background
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Architecture Environmental Engineering Mechanical Engineering Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in sustainable design environmental engineering ESD consultancy green building certification or building performance analysis.
- Proven track record of supporting or leading projects from concept design through to completion.
- Experience in the Malaysian construction industry and regional projects would be an advantage.
Technical Proficiency
- Strong understanding of green building systems passive and active design strategies low-carbon design and climate-responsive building design.
- Familiarity with building performance and design tools such as Rhino Grasshopper SketchUp and relevant energy or environmental simulation software.
- Experience with green building certification frameworks such as GBI GreenRE LEED or equivalent systems.
- Ability to translate sustainability strategies into practical design recommendations for clients and project teams.
Commercial and Client Development Skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Strong interest or proven experience in business development proposal preparation networking and market growth.
- Good understanding of the Malaysian construction and development market.
- Excellent communication presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Malaysia Singapore and the wider Ramboll network.
