To provide technical assistance and professional development that empowers educators to implement Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) develop high-quality standards-based IEPs and establish robust Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to ensure students with disabilities achieve ambitious academic and functional outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- Texas Special Education certification required
Skills
- At least 3 years of experience in Texas public schools with students in Special Education required
- Deep understanding of the legal requirements and best practices for Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) and the federal/state requirements for quality IEPs.
- Demonstrated ability to use student performance data to guide the selection of evidence-based interventions and progress monitoring tools.
- Experience in instructional coaching or adult learning theory to facilitate the transfer of training into classroom practice.
- Possesses the ability to make presentations to groups of school personnel and/or parents and community members
- Demonstrates problem-solving skills and is self-motivated with a high degree of personal responsibility to meet program requirements
Working Conditions:
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
- Posture: Must be physically able to tolerate prolonged sitting frequent standing; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling twisting and standing
- Motion: Must be physically able to tolerate frequent standing and walking repetitive hand motions frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching occasional driving
- Lifting: Must be physically able to tolerate regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds or more)
- Environment: Must be physically able to work inside; tolerate frequent districtwide travel and occasional statewide travel; regular exposure to noise
- Mental Demands: Must be able to work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours on occasion

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Participates in Special Education ESC Statewide Leadership Networks as appropriate
- Lead the design and delivery of training focused on the implementation of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) within the general education curriculum for local school districts and charter schools to bridge achievement gaps.
- Communicates with districts campuses charter schools TEA and ESCs to provide technical assistance/training to improve student performance
- Provides intensive coaching and technical assistance to district leadership and campus teams on the development of legal high-quality and data-driven IEPs that reflect individual student needs.
- Serve as a core member of the Region 16 MTSS Task Force contributing expertise on how to effectively integrate special education services within a tiered framework for all students.
- Assist districts in utilizing data-based individualization (DBI) to intensify interventions for students who are not making adequate progress within the MTSS framework.
- Lead cross-component collaboration between Special Education and General Education to ensure inclusive practices are systemic and sustainable across all tiered levels of support.
- Encourages district personnel to follow federal and state guidelines
- Enhances self-knowledge by participating in approved trainings and activities
- Travels as a part of job responsibilities
- Maintains a functioning cell phone and is accessible through this phone as deemed appropriate by the director A functioning cell phone means that it is charged activated messages checked and mailbox emptied regularly
- Reports for work ready to perform responsibilities
- Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region
- Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters
- Supports the mission goals and objectives of the ESC strategic plan
- Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the ESC safety program
- Performs professional responsibilities as required by ESC policies processes and procedures
- Manages time calendar and job responsibilities to meet deadlines
- Meets proficiency levels of required technology skills as outlined by supervisor
- Incorporates appropriate technology in daily work and exhibits continual growth in technologies as outlined by supervisor
