Description of Work

The Health Care Technician I/Special Events Coordinator coordinates special activities (Special Olympics camps dances including meals etc.) for individuals with intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities. Other duties include: attending division and recreational meetings observation and participation in structured and unstructured leisure activities within the division attend and oversee participation in ASRP activities participation in community outings on first and second shifts development of strategies to enhance leisure programming scheduling trips into the community and arranging transportation for all people living within Alpine Cottage on a monthly basis completing daily vehicle inspections assisting in classroom leisure and other areas within the division when needed and participation in division operational goals when assigned. Organizational skills and computer skills are necessary as well as good time management skills.
Major duties of the HCT I include training in self-care skills and programming activities daily living and personal care needs and related health care services that are based on each individuals needs. Participation in Range of Motion programming and Reading/Technology activities. This position is located in Murdoch Developmental Centers Alpine Cottage.

Alpine Cottage is looking for someone that is energetic and has great skills with conducting leisure groups with individuals that require assistance with completing tasks.

This position reports directly to Alpines Division Director and also works closely with Therapeutic Recreation.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Recruitment Range: $35360.00 - $38688.00

*A Sign-on bonus of $2000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.*

To maintain professional work relationships and an even-tempered demeanor

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Work Schedule8:00 amto 5:00pm Monday Friday with some flexibility in hours based upon individual/division needs and Campus Activities. Employees may be assigned to work within other cottages to meet the needs of the individuals served.

*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus*

Toqualify for the Sign-on Bonus a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.


An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government including the judicial system or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)

  • The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency

  • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
