Job Summary
The Associate Director has extensive experience developing robotic systems and/or other complex electro-mechanical embedded systems across the departments this role you will grow and manage a cross-disciplinary team of mechanical electrical software and systems engineers. The Associate Director reports to the Director of SEIT. As Systems Engineering is a fairly new and evolving discipline in most new Boston Dynamics product programs the AD SD serves as a corporate evangelist of SE providing consulting services for other product programs and helps grow unified best practices processes and tools for the SE discipline across the corporation.
How you will make an impact:
Recruit select develop evaluate and motivate SE personnel to ensure a high performing team.
Work cross-functionally to build buy-in and collaboration with the right-weight Systems Engineering approach that best helps the team deliver an exceptional product within project constraints. Educate others on SE benefits and methodology managing needed organizational change and leading by example in disciplined product engineering execution.
Work closely with Product Managers and program stakeholders in clarifying product requirements. Solicit requirements from stakeholders and subject-matter experts. Perform analysis and experimentation to ensure requirements are properly parameterized. Personally author high quality system requirements.
Clarify the evolving Concept of Operations ensuring that the intended breadth of use cases are clearly defined for the product.
Design and actively manage critical mechatronic system interfaces. Formalize an effective interface management approach.
Lead improvements in requirements management systems in support of the product teams evolving needs. Support Jama integration with TestRails and other corporate tools to ensure robust information management. Ensure effective integration with Jira-based software requirements management.
Required Skills & Experience:
Demonstrated leadership of cross-disciplinary teams in the development and productizing of robotic or other complex embedded systems (at least 10 years of experience).
Proven people management responsibilities including performance management employee relations and workforce planning recruiting mentoring facilitating meetings managing conflict motivating others building teams driving for results (prefer at least 5 years managing engineers).
Exceptional interpersonal team building organizational prioritization conflict management written and oral communication skills.
BS in Engineering. MS in Engineering and/or Engineering Management highly desirable.
Design of electro-mechanical embedded systems with familiarity of Electrical Mechanical Systems Engineering and Embedded Software development competencies.
Extensive experience with high-volume manufacturing
Desired Skills & Experience:
Experience working in automotive manufacturing and assembly plants highly desirable (target application environment).
Industrializing new technology from research into mass production.
Mobile robotics robotic manipulation grasping perception technologies and walking robots.
Training and/or solid experience in the majority of key functional competencies:
Systems Engineering including product architecting
Authoring reviewing and approving a wide variety of requirements
Reliability & robustness engineering methodologies including boundary and parameter diagramming DFMEA DVP&R root cause analysis statistical methods.
Safety-critical system development functional safety & SOTIF concepts
Human Machine Interfaces
Hardware software and systems verification methods
Rapid-prototyping manufacturing methods and prototype integration.
Experience in growing medium sized companies (100-2000 employees)
Experience with the development and documentation of product development processes methods and tool integration.

The base pay range for this position is between $170000 to $200000 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including but not limited to internal equity job related knowledge skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
