Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Accountant to join our team on a part-time temporary basis for up to six months with the possibility of extension based on business needs. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions while providing excellent service to internal and external stakeholders.


Position duties and responsibilities include:

  • Ensure accurate reporting and transactions in student accounts including tuition and fees and coordinate with various offices that generate those charges including the Registrars Office the Financial Aid Office the Residential Life Office the OWU Card Office the Public Safety Office and many others.
  • Maintain proper internal controls to ensure the safeguarding of all assets held in the Cashiers Office. Prepare and implement accounting procedures related to the cashiering function. Reconcile wire transfers to student accounts.
  • Serve as system owner of Student AR system within PowerCampus collaborating with University IS to ensure accuracy of system tables and information processing and to schedule student refunds.
  • Maintain integrity of student account balances by analyzing and correcting various entries.
  • Coordinate timely communication with students and families by collaborating with the Director of Financial Aid office of University Communications and other partners critical to the first-year experience.
  • Assist with the reporting of Unclaimed Funds to the State of Ohio.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for sending accounts to external collections. Maintain records accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the university Controller regarding allowance for uncollectible accounts.
  • Assist in the analysis reconciliation and preparation of various schedules for month-end year-end closes and annual audit preparation as needed.
  • Reconciliation of Fixed Assets.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Higher Education student accounts accounting or a related financial role preferred.
  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration Accounting Finance or related field.
  • Five years of experience in a similar professional accounting position such as accounts receivable.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective MS Excel and Word skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
