Position Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) for the Maternal & Child Health Department provides strategic clinical and operational leadership to advance patient care quality and staff performance. This role is responsible for designing and implementing clinical improvement initiatives monitoring departmental outcomes and ensuring full compliance with regulatory organizational and accreditation standards. The DON collaborates closely with nurse managers and executive leadership to foster continuous improvement and drive excellence across all maternal and child health services.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute programs aimed at improving patient outcomes and staff performance
Monitor evaluate and report on clinical quality metrics across assigned units
Collaborate with nurse managers to assess operational effectiveness and resolve clinical or administrative issues
Lead development and execution of corrective action plans to address performance gaps
Design and maintain systems for tracking medication errors and associated counseling documentation
Ensure compliance with organizational policies regulatory standards and evidence-based practices
Provide senior-level leadership and oversight for the Maternal & Child Health Department
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum of 7 years of professional nursing experience
At least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity
Strong expertise in patient care quality improvement and performance management
Proven experience in corrective action planning and implementation
Specialized experience in Maternal & Child Health nursing
Demonstrated leadership experience at a director or senior management level
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
Preferred Education
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Licensure & Certifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license New York State
