Are you a Physician seeking a unique leadership position in a fast-paced environment As our Jail Intake Associate Medical Director you will provide clinical and administrative oversight for physicians and advanced practice providers delivering 24-hour medical services at the Maricopa County Correctional Health Services (CHS) Intake Transfer and Release (ITR) facility. ITR is where all individuals are booked into custody and released from custody; therefore the facility functions as the first step in screening and understanding the medical needs of patients within the jails. This role collaborates closely with executive and medical leadership to ensure high-quality evidence-based care for a diverse and complex patient population including individuals with medical mental health and substance use disorders. The Jail Intake Associate Medical Director also supports quality improvement initiatives supervises clinical staff participates in multidisciplinary decision-making and contributes to policy development staff training and accreditation efforts to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.

We Require
Three years post-residency experience evaluating and treating diverse patients with complex medical substance use and mental health disorders
Doctoral degree from an accredited and approved school of medicine or osteopathic medicine
Must have completed an approved U.S. Residency/Fellowship training program in Family Medicine Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine
Current unrestricted license to practice medicine issued by the State of Arizona
Current unrestricted board certification from the American Board of Family Physicians the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Board of Emergency Medicine

Job Contributions
Provides clinical oversight of Physicians and Advance Practice Providers providing 24-hour medical services at the Intake Transfer Release (ITR) facility of Correctional Health Services.
Acts as Supervising Physician for Physician Assistants practicing at ITR or as needed throughout CHS
Provides on-call at home support as needed for urgent clinical case review to Advance Practice Providers on shift at ITR as needed
Works closely with the Chief Medical Officer and the Executive Leadership Team to oversee various administrative functions to improve the initial health assessments of patients admitted to the ITR facility under CHS care
Performs comprehensive chart reviews periodically and as needed for quality improvement legal review morbidity/mortality review or administrative reviews.
Collaborates closely with the Assistant Medical Director Associate Medical Director Lead Psychiatrist Mental Health Director Dental Director Pharmacy Director Clinical Manager of Addiction Medicine Nursing and other leaders to ensure comprehensive evidence-based care treatment and services are provided to every patient.
Supports the development and updating of clinical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) with the oversight of the Chief Medical Officer to ensure compliance with best practices standards of care existing laws and regulations.
Actively participates in mental health-related jail-based classification administrative and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Develops and conducts training programs for new and existing staff on clinical treatment assessment and psychiatric protocols.
Recommends systematic improvements in workflows training EHR and other systems to leadership to improve clinical outcomes.
Assists with preparation education and training for accreditation surveys.
Maintains licensure certifications and other credentialing as indicated
Working Conditions
Must be able to work inside a jail and stand walk and bend for extended periods of time throughout the shift while accurately handling a high volume of work communicating with a culturally diverse patient population and adapting to frequent changes interruptions and unscheduled tasks
Position includes day or night shift work which may include weekends and holidays
Traveling or floating to various clinical locations is required within a 5-mile radius
Must be able to respond to emergencies
Must maintain CPR certification and get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions push medical equipment climb stairs and lift patients on a gurney
Must maintain certification from the American Board of Family Physicians the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Board of Emergency Medicine
Current DEA certification is required upon hire
Current DEA dispensing license is required upon hire
Current NPI number is required upon hire
Current CPR certification including knowledge and hands-on curriculum is required
Must not have any pending actions by the Arizona Board of Medicine or any other state
Must complete a fingerprint clearance credentialing and privileging requirements pass a background check and maintain MCSO jail access
