WORKING HOURS: Full time (5 days per week / av. 45 hours per week). This is a studio-based role and therefore no flexible/hybrid working option

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 65000 - 68000 (including London weighting). Salary is dependent on relevant skills knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

One of the UKs most ambitious and iconic soaps EastEnders is looking for a Construction Manager to join the team.

Working to the EastEnders Series Designer you will manage and coordinate construction teams to ensure delivery of the highest quality studio sets and fully maintained front and back lot set spaces.

The EastEnders construction team is a mix of staff members freelancers and external contractors spread across studio workshop and front and back lot. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring productivity wellbeing and a clear planned pattern of work with excellent communication and feedback.

Managing our construction team plays a vital part in keeping the show fresh and exciting. This is an excellent opportunity to consolidate construction expertise in a leadership role where you will bring enthusiasm and experience to motivate manage and develop others to deliver against tough schedules and to high standards.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Manage multi- skilled construction teams ensuring proactive leadership effective communication and highquality performance across all team members.
  • Interpret designers technical drawings create and manage construction schedules and budgets. Forecast crewing levels to meet building requirements ensuring workflows meet tight production schedules and is deliverable on budget reporting any additional spending need to Design Manager.
  • Lead on construction methods to ensure all builds are planned and managed correctly and are compliant with all relevant legislation including planning consent building regulations and CDM 2015 regulations as well as the BBCs own H&S policies.
  • Oversee external contractors and liaise with local authorities and the site permit office as needed. Manage planning plant maintenance material collections and workshop programme coordination with the support of the workshop supervisor.
  • Working closely with the Series Designer Block Designers Props and Setting Manager and the Production Scheduler to ensure achievable workflows to support editorial ambition. Working closely with scenic artists to achieve specific textures ageing and finishes for the camera
  • Ensure all construction activities particularly working with machines or at heights comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure confidentiality maintain financial records (petty cash/credit card) complete necessary worksheets inspect and snag sets and ensure scenery is weighed labelled and properly recorded before leaving the workshop
  • Manage trainees and apprentices and record their progression to ensure they meet all areas of development. Support development performance and training across the wider team as required

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

    Extensive demonstratable experience of working in construction across TV film theatre or the wider creative industry
  • Demonstrable complex project management experience and proven leadership skills. Experience of managing and coordinating large teams with varying duties and contract types
  • Proven experience of taking a creative and resourceful approach to problems and finding solutions within a high pressure constantly changing environment and can evidence delivering sets to time pressured schedules
  • Proven experience of creating and managing budgets cash flow and spending
  • Must have excellent knowledge of health and safety standards with proven qualifications in risk management and safe working practices Risk Assessments and method statements (RAMS) industry specific safety knowledge
  • CDM 2015 Regulation knowledge; excellent understanding of legal responsibilities under construction (Design & Management) regulations
  • Desirable Qualifications; degree in Construction Management Civil Engineering or building Surveying. Vocational qualifications such as NVQs or Level 3 Diplomas in Carpentry joinery plastering or Decorating
