SUMMARY
Under general supervision trains and monitors the activities of Nutrition Services staff to ensure all schools comply with Minot Public Schools (MPS) Health Department and State and Federal regulations.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Conducts site visits to assigned schools to observe operations monitor quality control standards monitor compliance with USDA program regulations and monitor food safety standards.
- Trains food service staff regarding equipment use and care food preparation nutrition sanitation storage and record keeping. Assists with new employee training including mentoring orientation and on-the-job training.
- Estimates food preparation amounts and adjusts/creates recipes if required for the projected meal requirements and minimizing waste of food items.
- Evaluates prepared food for flavor appearance and temperature for the purpose of student acceptance meeting estimated meal requirements and minimizing waste.
- Inspects food and/or supply deliveries for the purpose of verifying quantity quality and complying with mandated health requirements.
- Assists with developing processes for batch cooking and serving efficiencies for highest quality food production at school sites.
- Reviews production records and other required documentation at sites for accuracy and completeness.
- Assists in district menu planning and in the implementation of new programs to increase student meal participation and satisfaction.
- Assists Nutrition Services Director with Student Special Diets.
- Supports the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients visitors and District staff; informs director of concerns at school sites; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues client records and District information; follows compliance rules governing child abuse; performs related duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Training and Experience Guidelines
Associates Degree in Nutrition Business or a related field AND five (5) years of food service or nutrition services experience which includes some previous supervisory responsibilities OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience. Must pass a thorough background investigation.
Knowledge of:
- Department policies and procedures.
- General bookkeeping and accounting practices and procedures.
- Training and instruction methods.
- Supervisory principles and practices.
- Applicable Federal State and local ordinances statute rules and codes.
- Record keeping and file maintenance principles and procedures.
- Safety rules and regulations occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Skill in:
- Monitoring kitchen operations identifying potential food safety hazards and enforcing compliance
with State and Federal regulations. - Safely using kitchen tools and equipment and specialized safety testing tools.
- Accurately managing inventories and related records.
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks projects and demands to meet deadlines.
- Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
- Supervising staff delegating tasks and authority and evaluating staff performance.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid North Dakota State Drivers License may be required.
Training and certification in Food Safety and Sanitation through the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is required; Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed through MPS food preparation and distribution facilities. While on-site may be exposed to hot and cold temperatures such as ovens and freezers kitchen equipment and cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.
