Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) for the Maternal Child Health Department provides strategic and operational leadership to enhance patient care quality and staff performance. This role is responsible for developing and implementing clinical improvement programs monitoring departmental performance and ensuring compliance with regulatory and institutional standards. The DON will collaborate closely with nurse managers and leadership teams to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence across all maternal and child health services.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement programs to improve patient outcomes and staff performance
• Monitor evaluate and report on patient care quality across assigned units
• Partner with nurse managers to assess operations and address clinical or administrative concerns
• Lead corrective action planning and ensure timely implementation of improvements
• Establish and maintain systems for tracking medication errors and related counseling activities
• Ensure adherence to hospital policies regulatory requirements and best practice standards
• Provide executive-level leadership and oversight for the Maternal Child Health Department

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 7 years of professional nursing experience
• At least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role
• Strong background in patient care quality improvement and performance monitoring
• Demonstrated experience in corrective action planning and implementation
• Expertise in Maternal Child Health nursing
• Proven leadership experience at a director or senior management level

Education Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution

Preferred Education

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

Licensure & Certifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (New York State)
• Primary Source Verification of RN license (NYSED)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
