The Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) Canada is hiring a Social Media Coordinator (SMC) through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This is a position specifically for youth aged 15 to 30. The Social Media Coordinator will create and manage social media and other digital campaigns around ICCs General Assembly our largest event that occurs every four years. The SMC roleis responsible forcurating and sharing engaging content that drives community engagement across all our media platforms. The SMC will gain valuable communications experience and transferable skills working in a small non-profit Indigenous Peoples organization as they work alongside ICC Canada staff and through participation in meetings with staff partner organizations and stakeholders.

The Social Media Coordinator will:

  • Developengaging content including posts visuals and short-form videos tailored to each platform;
  • Write clear and compelling copy and messages for all social media channels;
  • Track key metricsidentifytrends and summarize insights to support the communications strategy;
  • Manage the content calendar and plan campaigns to ensuretimelyand consistent posting;
  • Design visual content and digital materials using Canva and Adobe Suite;
  • Ensurebrand consistency byadhering ICCsbrand and identity guidelines across all channelsand materials;
  • Stay current with emerging social media trends tools and platform updates and proactively suggest innovative approaches to content and engagement;
  • Maintainorganizedfiles informationlogs and record keepingfor communications activities;
  • Collaborate with team members to plan and developcontent andassistwith other communications tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications Knowledge and skills:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years old and meet all other Canada Summer Jobs criteria (as set by the Government of Canada);
  • Experience in a social media digital marketing or communications role (includinginternships co-opplacementsand volunteering);
  • Familiarity with social media platformstrends and best practices(FacebookInstagramX LinkedIn YouTube);
  • Strong writing editing and storytelling skills;
  • Experiencedevelopingengaging content for social mediaand managing acontent calendar;
  • Experiencewith content creation tools(e.g. Canva Adobe Suite);
  • Creative and collaborative mindset eager to contribute ideas;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Flexible in handling a variety of concurrent tasks with solid time management abilities;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse individuals;
  • Strongcopy writing and editingskills;
  • Sensitivityto localpoliticaland cultural issues;
  • Ability to adapt to a quickly changing environment;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English with Inuktut an asset;
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft 365;
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is an asset;
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Inuit culture traditions and current issues.

Education:

  • High school diploma;
  • PREFERRED Post-secondary education in Communications Marketing Public Relations Digital Media Journalism or a related field.

Other Information:

  • ICC offers a hybrid / fully remote / fully in-office environment;
  • Role involves long periods of sitting at a computer;
  • Work may involve politically sensitive issues and short-notice deadlines;
  • Role may require travel within Canada.
