Position Summary and Scope of Service
The Pharmacy Student provides support to Pharmacists and Pharmacy Assistants within the Health and Transition Services (H&TS) Pharmacy. This role contributes to the safe accurate and efficient delivery of medications through administrative and hands-on support activities. Qualifications
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Enrollment in or completion of a Pharmacy Assistant program (college-level) is considered an asset
- Previous experience in a pharmacy setting is an asset
- Demonstrated interest in pharmacy studies or pursuing a career in pharmacy
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to remain focused on repetitive tasks
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Eligibility (Canada Summer Jobs Program)
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Be available to work the full duration of the placement
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program for 8-weeks
Key Responsibilties
- Support medication distribution processes to ensure safety and accuracy
- File and organize pharmacy records
- Review medication expiration dates
- Label medications and assist with packaging processes
- Assist with receiving and unpacking pharmacy orders
- Support packaging of medications using the 35-day card system
- Operate heat seal equipment (training provided)
- Use pharmacy systems (e.g. KROLL) to generate labels
- Assist with returned medication cards and inventory handling
- Remove expired medications and labels
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule
- Monday and Friday: 9:00AM 2:00PM
- Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday: 9:00AM 4:00PM
- Closed on weekends and statutory holidays
