Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
Assist in the summer operations and programs of the children and youth department of Guelph Citadel. Take part in leadership development and build skills knowledge and abilities related to children and youth programming. Aid the department in administration social media development and volunteer management as required.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
General
Assist the Director of Youth/Childrens Ministries in the coordination of family programs and events.
Coordinate recruit and train volunteers to participate in children/youth programming and community events.
Reach out and engage marginalized communities and develop youth and/or family specific neighborhood events.
Participate in community events and programming with a specific focus on fostering relationships with participants.
Assist in preparing monthly curriculum packages and coordinate delivery.
Aid in the operations of the Loft Childrens Library increasing local participation through well-advertised community events.
Participate in the development preparation and organization of Fall children and youth events and programming.
Record lessons learned and propose ongoing strategies for program improvement and community engagement.
Engage in leadership development with the Director of Youth/Childrens Ministries.
Communication/Administration
Manage weekly communications to existing and potential children and youth program participants.
Maintain active social media presence.
Maintain attendance and statistical records.
Perform administrative duties such as filing review/revise policy manuals/handbooks prepare/distribute program materials as requested process program registrations as required prepare presentations as needed draft correspondence thank you letters etc. as requested.
Maintain confidentiality and keeps accurate children/youth/client files and statistical reports.
Provide administrative support as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
Flexibility in scheduling is required and schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities and may include some evening and weekend work.
Ability to lift/move 25 lbs. and this job requires frequent twisting bending crouching reaching lifting and kneeling.
Working environment is typically in the CFS building in agreeable conditions.
Normal working hours: As per operational requirements the regular 35 weekly work hours is Tuesday to Saturday with Sunday and Monday as days off. Hours will vary and include daytime and evening shifts. Flexibility is required to meet operational needs including occasional adjustments to shifts and hours.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is funded in part through the CanadaSummer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection hasbeen conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
a valid Social Insurance Number;
be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone whois temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen permanent resident orperson who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling as well as those who hold a visitor visa youth visa or work visa are ineligible
An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legallyremain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.
Canada Summer Jobs Program requirements apply. Individuals who required employer-specific work authorization (e.g. international students on study permits) are not eligible under this program. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements including age and legal status criteria.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Completion of secondary school.
Valid Ontario Class G drivers license original copy of drivers abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
Some prior related experience in children and/or youth programming.
Must have excellent written verbal and computer skills.
Standard First Aid and CPR is an asset but not required.
Use of computers (Microsoft Suite).
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.84 with a maximum of $26.20.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
