Job Summary
Position Overview
The STEAM Instructor for Summer @ The Brook is responsible for leading engaging hands-on learning experiences for campers in the areas of artificial intelligence robotics and game design for middle school students. This role is ideal for an educator or industry professional who is passionate about innovation experiential learning and inspiring students through project-based STEAM education.
The instructor will lead up to three themed weeks of programming guiding campers through collaborative projects skill-building activities and culminating demonstrations.

Position Type: Seasonal Summer (up to 3 weeks)
Reports to: Director of Auxiliary Programs / Summer Programs Leadership
Program Responsibilities
Week 2: Artificial Intelligence in Action
- Lead campers in exploring foundational AI concepts through hands-on activities. Facilitate projects involving image recognition pattern detection and decision-making systems.
- Guide students in testing AI models through games simulations and interactive applications.
Week 3: Land Robotics Build and Challenge Week
- Instruct campers in designing building and programming land-based robots using motors and sensors.
- Support students through engineering challenges including obstacle courses and navigation tasks.
- Organize and oversee friendly competitions and demonstrations.
Week 4: Robotics and AI Game Design
- Guide campers in combining robotics and AI concepts to develop interactive games challenges or autonomous systems.
- Encourage creativity experimentation and iterative design.
- Lead final presentations or demonstrations of student-created projects. Core Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver structured age-appropriate STEAM lessons aligned with weekly themes.
- Create a positive inclusive and engaging classroom environment.
- Supervise campers during instructional periods and ensure safety at all times. Adapt instruction to meet varying skill levels and learning styles.
- Collaborate with summer staff and leadership to ensure a cohesive camper experience. Maintain classroom materials equipment and organization.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors degree or coursework in STEM education computer science engineering or a related field preferred.
- Experience:
Experience teaching or working with students (ages 815 preferred). Experience with robotics platforms (such as LEGO VEX or similar) and/or introductory AI tools.
- Skills:
Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Ability to translate complex concepts into engaging age-appropriate instruction. Creativity flexibility and enthusiasm for hands-on learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with coding languages such as Python Scratch or similar platforms. Familiarity with AI tools machine learning concepts or educational robotics kits. Previous summer camp or enrichment program experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lead classroom and lab-based activities for extended periods. Ability to lift and move instructional materials and equipment as needed.
