TheStanley Black & Decker Leadership Development Program (SLP)is a high-profile rotational program that is an integrated process for accelerating the development of our future leaders. It is geared toward recent graduates with Marketing experience and a relevant business degree with a passion for a long-term career in Marketing-focused roles.

What you will get to do

Commercial Marketing SLPswork in 3 rotations over 2 years. Each rotation has project assignments that allow participants to become familiar with how we do business and contribute to the success of the company.

The Commercial Marketing SLP will participate in a rotation in each of the following functions: Channel Marketing Product Management and Brand Marketing.

About Product Management:

Product Managersare primarily responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and financial performance of their product lines. This includes managing the Profit & Loss (P&L) for the Strategic Business Unit developing a comprehensive three-year strategic plan and tailoring national brand and product strategies to meet market demands. They play a crucial role in managing relationships with creative teams ensuring effective financial tracking and executing marketing tasks such as SAP SKU structuring and forecasting. Product Managers lead product launches coordinate promotional efforts and serve as the primary liaison with US and Global Marketing Teams. They also focus on educating sales teams about market trends providing in-depth product knowledge and facilitating communication across departments to ensure cohesive strategy implementation.

About Channel Management:

Channel Managersfocus on driving portfolio growth specifically within the Canadian market. Their responsibilities include managing the Profit & Loss (P&L) for the Strategic Business Unit and developing and executing a three-year strategic plan that aligns with national brand and product strategies. They maintain strong relationships with sales and finance departments to ensure financial targets are accurately measured and met.

Channel managers lead innovative product launches and coordinate promotional activities within there respected channel acting as the main contact for Canadian US and Global Marketing Teams. They also educate sales teams and customers on emerging trends provide product knowledge and ensure effective communication of marketing activities across various departments collaborating closely with Canadian Sales Marketing Logistics Groups Global Counterparts and End-Users.

About Brand Marketing:

Brand Managers are responsible for shaping and maintaining the identity reputation and market positioning of our brands. Their primary focus is developing and executing comprehensive brand strategies that drive awareness engagement and loyalty among target audiences. Brand Managers oversee the creation and implementation of marketing campaigns ensuring consistency in messaging and visual identity across all platforms. They collaborate closely with creative product and sales teams to align brand initiatives with business objectives and market trends. Additionally Brand Managers monitor brand performance metrics analyze consumer insights and adjust strategies to optimize brand equity and growth. They serve as the central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders fostering strong relationships to support brand objectives and guiding cross-functional teams in delivering cohesive brand experiences.

As an SLP throughout the program youll have the opportunity to support the Channel Product & Brand Marketing Functions with key projects and initiatives that may include:

  • Generating analytics insights and reporting to help drive margin growth portfolio optimization and strategy
  • Conduct market research to determine and track pricing margin and profitability targets across multiple categories and retailers
  • Support the teams in their efforts to provide strategic counsel to cross-functional partners in category strategy pricing product assortment margin and growth expectations and product launch plans
  • Assist in developing of marketing collateral point-of-purchase displays advertising materials and web content to promote product portfolio
  • Research trends in the industry and related industries and develop a deep understanding of our end users and assist teams in incorporate these insights into successful new product launches
  • Learn about the product lifecycle process from senior product experts
  • Maintain Product Information Management systems ensuring information is up-to-date and accurate
  • Coordinate and track New Product Development (NPD) projects annually and deliver enhanced and market-ready assets for our Canadian Market
  • Report out/present to Program peers and company leaders about your project deliverables on a regular rhythm

Who You are

You love to learn and grow and be acknowledged for your valuable contributions. Youre not intimidated by innovation. You also have:

  • Bachelors degree or diploma in Marketing Communications Business Administration Business Analytics or other related fields
  • Demonstrated leadership experience paired with strong academic background.
  • Prior internships in Product Category Brand Marketing Marketing Insights or other related fields an asset.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team without constant direction or supervision.
  • Strong communication skills: verbal written and interpersonal; presentation and facilitation skills social media savvy communicator; ability to effectively communicate across potential language barriers
  • Demonstrated quantitative analytical creative problem solving and conceptual skills
  • Resourceful withability to navigate the unknown finding solutions by navigating through internal and external channels
  • Excellent networking and collaboration skills; Proven ability to build alliances influence others and work in a team environment.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail; Ability to be proactive prioritize work and handle multiple assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability and willingness to relocate if necessary
