Exploration Geology Intern Summer 2026

Start Day: May 18 - June 1
Duration: 12-16 weeks
Hours per week: 30-40
Rate of pay: $17/hr
Location: Salt Lake City In-Person
Travel up to 7 consecutive days

Geothermal energy is the most abundant renewable energy source in the world. However historically its been hard to find and expensive to develop. At Zanskar were using better technology to find and develop new geothermal resources in order to make geothermal a cost-effective and vital contributor to a carbon-free energy future. We are revolutionizing the exploration process setting new industry standards for discovery rates and finding new prospects at an unprecedented scale.

The Exploration team is hiring a Summer Intern to support prospect generation and evaluation by building and
maintaining the datasets that underpin our exploration workflow. This role will contribute directly to active
projects while working alongside a fast-moving multidisciplinary team.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

  • Pursuing / completed B.S. or M.S. in Geologyor related field
  • Interest or prior exposure to geothermal &exploration
  • Self-driven organized comfortable with
  • independent work
  • Eagerness to engage in both field and officeenvironments

INTERN DELIVERABLES PROJECTS & OUTPUTS

Each deliverable represents a distinct concrete contribution to Zanskars exploration database andworkflows.

Data Ingestion for Key Prospect Areas

  • Geologic literature review legacy report compilation map digitization welldata extraction & aggregation database QA/AC. Catalog summarize andtag field reports into a structured reference library with key metadata.

Prospect ScreeningSupport

  • GIS Project Maintenance. Assist with spatial data analysis to evaluate newtarget areas. Contribute to map products and data-backed observationsthat feed directly into active scoring.

StakeholderPresentation

  • Deliver a polished end-of-internship presentation covering projectscompleted and key learnings.

MENTORSHIP STRUCTURE

Structured mentorship from two teams ensures technical growth and integration into Zanskarsexploration culture.

MENTOR / TEAM ROLE MENTORSHIP ACTIVITIES

Early-StageExploration Team(Primary)

  • Technical Lead Weekly 1-on-1 check-ins
  • guided introduction to geothermal exploration workflows
  • target screening; co authorship credit on internal memos and exploration summaries
  • Based on candidate interest responsibilities may include travel for:
    • collection of external data
    • field site assessments
    • mapping
    • water sampling

Prospect Generation(Secondary)

  • Data & Targeting Weekly collaboration on digitization review and mapproducts
  • hands-on training in database structure
  • data pipelines
  • data scraping
  • exposure to prospect scoring and ranking
  • paired QGIS spatial analysis sessions for new leads.

Cross-Team (Ad Hoc)

Professional Dev.

  • Lunch-and-learns with senior geologists
  • shadowing of stakeholder meetings
  • feedback on final presentation draft
  • end-of-internship written performance review

CAPSTONE: Final Stakeholder Presentation End of August 2026


The intern will deliver a polished 1520 minute presentation to key Zanskar stakeholders summarizingcompleted deliverables contributions to the exploration database key geologic insights andrecommendations for future work serving as both a resume-building milestone and an introduction toprofessional scientific communication in an industry setting.
